중국신화를 둘러싼 한중 갈등 양상과 그 원인

국문 초록

최근 한중 양국에서 중국신화를 두고 일어난 일련의 갈등은 근대 동아시아 신화학 탄생 과정에 기인한 것으로 보인다. 19세기 말 서양에서 동아시아로 수입된 신화 개념은 국민을 창출하고 국가 정체성을 확립하는 도구로 활용되었다. 그 결과 국경선을 경계로 삼은 국민 국가 신화학이 수립되며 중국신화를 공유했던 장구한 역사는 희미해졌다. 또 중국신화가 민간문학으로 분류됨에 따라 제2외국어 문학으로 타자화되었으며, 신화를 소도(小道)로 정의한 전통적 인식의 한계에서 벗어나지 못했다. 이 때문에 중국신화가 다양한 주체의 참여로 형성되었고, 한국문화에 깊이 뿌리내렸음에도 불구하고 중화인민공화국이라는 국민국가 소유의 문학으로 인식되며, 한국 신화학, 동아시아학, 동양학 등 어디에도 소속되지 못한 채 반목의 씨앗이 되었다. 이를 해결하기 위해서는 문화속지주의를 뒤로하고 연관과 비교의 시각으로 동질성과 독창성을 아우르는 ‘공동의 신화학’이 필요하다.

영문 초록

Recently, a series of conflicts over Chinese mythology between Korea and China are due to various causes, and the process of formation of modern East Asian mythology is also an important reason. At the end of the 19th century, the concept of mythology imported from West to East Asia was used as a tool to create a nation and establish a national identity. As a result, nation-state mythology was established with borders as boundaries, and the long history that Chinese myths were shared faded. In addition, as Chinese mythology was classified as folk literature, it became the other as a second foreign language literature, and it did not escape the limits of traditional recognition that defined mythology as a Xiaodao. Because of this, Chinese mythology was formed by the power of various subjects and was deeply rooted in Korean culture, but it was recognized as literature owned by the People’s Republic of China. It has become a seed of antagonism without belonging anywhere, such as Korean mythology, East Asian studies, and Oriental studies. In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to leave cultural territorialism behind and write a new ‘common mythology’ that encompasses homogeneity and originality from the perspective of connections and comparisons.
