국문 초록

이 글은 1920~30년대에 간행된 대표적인 종합잡지 『개벽』, 『삼천리』, 『신동아』에서 조선사 관련 기사를 선별하고, 사학사적 문제의식에서 그에 대한 통계적 분석을 시도한 것이다. 3종의 종합잡지에서 광고 등을 제외하고 추출한 전체 기사는 총 1만 173건에 이른다. 이를 전수조사하여 조선사 관련 기사 629건을 선별했고, 다양한 정보를 추출했다. 가장 눈에 띄는 것은 당대의 관점에서 ‘현대사’ 관련 기사가 많은 수를 차지한다는 점이다. 이는 조선사 연구의 헤게모니를 제국일본이 장악하는 가운데, 근대적 국민국가로의 발전 가능성을 현대사에서 찾으려는 시도와 무관하지 않은 것으로 보인다. 『개벽』은 김옥균과 갑신정변을 높이 평가하는 한편 조선왕조의 당쟁을 부정적으로 논했으며, 『삼천리』는 이러한 경향을 더욱 확대하여 자신들을 근대적 사상의 정당한 계승자로 자리매김하고자 했다. 『신동아』 조선사 관련 기사는 고학력의 지식인들이 저술한 것이 많았으며, 이들은 학술지에 뒤떨어지지 않는 수준의 글을 보여주었다. 식민지조선의 지식인들에게 주어진 학술의 영역은 협소했는데, 3종의 종합잡지는 그들에게 조선사관련 기사를 게재할 수 있는 공간을 제공했다. 이 연구가 종합잡지를 사학사적 관점에서 분석하기 위한 토대가 되기를 희망한다.

영문 초록

This article selects articles related to Korean history from the representative general magazines Gaebaek, Samcheonri, and Shindonga published in the 1920s and 30s, and attempts to analyze them statistically from a historical perspective. The total number of articles extracted from the three magazines, excluding ads, was 10,173. By conducting a full investigation, 628 articles related to Korean history were selected, and various information was extracted. Most noticeable is the large number of articles on “modern history” from a contemporary perspective. This seems to be unrelated to the attempt to find in modern history the possibility of the development of a modern nation-state in the face of the hegemony of imperial Japan in the study of Korean history. The Gaebaek praised Kim Ok-gyun and Gapshin Jeongbyeon while negatively discussing the party struggles of the Joseon Dynasty, and Samcheonri expanded on these trends to position itself as the rightful heir to modern ideas. Many of the articles on Korean history in Shindonga were written by highly educated intellectuals, and their writing was comparable to that of academic journals. The academic sphere for intellectuals in colonial Korea was narrow, but three general magazines provided them with space to publish articles on shipbuilding history. It is hoped that it will serve as the basis for analyzing comprehensive magazines from a historical perspective.
