홍대용의 척독집 ｢杭傳尺牘(항전척독)｣ 연구

국문 초록

본고는 숭실대학교 한국기독교박물관에 소장된 필사본 『담헌외서(항전척독)』를 서지적으로 연구한 글이다. 엄격히 말해 본 『담헌외서』는 담헌의 편지만 엮은 ｢항전척독｣이다. ｢항전척독｣은 여러 이본이 존재하는데, 후손가 소장본, 숭실대 소장본, 연세대 위당문고 필사본 『담헌서』 수록본, 1933년 출간된 『담헌서』 수록본 ｢항전척독｣이 그것이다. ｢항전척독｣의 출전과 제작 경위를 살펴본 결과 ｢항전척독｣은 담헌의 또 다른 척독집인 『간정후편』과 『간정부편』에서 담헌의 글만 발췌하여 제작한 것이다. 그 편집 간행 양상은 다양한데, 출전 원문을 그대로 수록한 것이 있는가 하면 일부 수정, 또는 대폭 수정과 여러 편지 짜깁기 등을 통해 제작되었음을 알 수 있었다. 이본을 비교해 본 결과, “후손가 소장본 『담헌서(항전척독)』 → 숭실대 소장본 『담헌외서(항전척독)』 → 위당문고본 『담헌서』 ｢항전척독｣ → 신조선사 간행본 『담헌서』 ｢항전척독｣” 순으로 편찬된 것으로 추정할 수 있다. ｢항전척독｣을 편집 간행한 인물로는 담헌의 손자인 홍양후로 추정하였다. 홍양후는 1830년을 전후한 시기에 담헌의 문헌을 수집 정리하는 작업을 주도하였는데, 이 과정에서 ｢항전척독｣을 편집한 것으로 보인다.

영문 초록

This paper is a bibliographical study of the manuscript 『Damheon-oe-seo(湛軒外書)』 stored in the Korean Christian Museum of Soongsil University. This 『Damheon-oe-seo(‘Hang-jeon-cheok-dok)』 is a compilation of only the letters of Damheon(湛軒). There are several editions of ｢Hang-jeon-cheok-dok(杭傳尺牘)｣, which are the collection of descendants, the collection of Soongsil University, the manuscript of Yonsei University’s Widangmungo(爲堂文庫), the manuscript of 『Damheon-seo(湛軒書)』, and the collection of 『Damheon-seo』, published in 1933, ｢Hang-jeon-cheok-dok｣. As a result of examining the origins and production process of ｢Hang-jeon-cheok-dok｣, ｢Hang-jeon-cheok-dok｣ was produced by extracting only the writings of Damheon from 『Ganjeonghupyun(乾淨後編)』 and 『Ganjeongbupyun(乾淨附編)』, another collection of Damheon's letters. As a result of comparing the copy of a different editions, it can be inferred that ｢Hang-jeon-cheok-dok｣ was compiled in the following order: “The edition of descendants’ family → The edition of Soongsil University → Widangmungo edition → 『Damheonseo』”. It was presumed that the person who edited and published ｢Hang-jeon-cheok-dok｣ was Hong Yang-hoo(洪良厚), the grandson of Damheon. Hong Yang-hoo took the lead in collecting and organizing Damheon's documents around 1830, and in the process, he seems to have also published ｢Hang-jeon-cheok-dok｣
