국문 초록

나라에 바칠 목숨이 오직 하나 밖에 없어 슬프다는 말을 남기고 순국한 18세소녀 유관순 열사는 3․1운동의 상징으로 여겨진다. 3․1운동 100주년을 맞아한국은 물론 미국에서도 조선의 독립을 염원했던 유관순 열사를 다시금 조명하고있다. 뉴욕 주의회가 지난달 2019년 3월 1일을 ‘유관순 열사의 업적을 기리는기념일’로 제정하는 결의안을 채택했는가 하면 뉴저지주의회 역시 3월 1일을유관순의 날로 제정하는 결의안 채택을 앞두고 있다. 4월 1일 아우내 장터 만세운동당시 유관순 열사의 부모는 일본 경찰에 살해당하였다. 유관순 열사가 시위직후 몸을 피했지만 홀로 남겨진 두 남동생이 걱정돼 집을 찾았다가 일본 경찰에게체포됐다. 100년 전 조국 독립을 위해 한마음으로 헌신했던 유관순 열사의 정신을후손들이 잊지 않았으면 한다. 뉴욕에서 외치는 유관순 열사의 정신을 통해 이민 생활을 하고 있는 한인들끼리서로 반목하고 무시하는 일은 없기를 바란다. 100년 전 조국 독립을 위해 한마음으로 헌신했던 유관순 열사의 정신을 후손들이 잊지 않았으면 한다. 이를통해 한인들이 서로를 세워주고 보듬었으면 한다.

영문 초록

The patriotic martyr Yu Gwan-sun was 18 years old when she died for the country. She said she was sad because she had one life devoted for the country. She was considered as the symbol of March 1 Independence Movement. In the centennial year of March 1 Independence Movement, the patriotic martyr Yu Gwan-sun who longed for the independence of Joseon is highlighted again in USA. New York State Council adopted the resolution to designate March 1, 2019 as the ‘Yu Gwan-sun Day to Commemorate Her Achievement’ last month. Moreover, New Jersey City Council will adopt the resolution to designate March 1 as the Yu Gwan-sun Day. The parents of the patriotic martyr Yu Gwan-sun were killed by Japanese police in Awunae Market on April 1 during the Independence Movement. While her parents escaped right after the independence movement by the patriotic martyr Yu Gwan-sun, they came back home because of their two sons, but arrested by the Japanese police. The descendants shall not forget the spirit of the patriotic martyr Yu Gwan-sun who devoted herself for the independence of the country with one mind 100 years ago. With the spirit of the patriotic martyr Yu Gwan-sun shouted in New York, there should be no conflicts among the Koreans living in USA. The descendants shall not forget the spirit of the patriotic martyr Yu Gwan-sun who devoted herself for the independence of the country with one mind 100 years ago. Through her spirit, we need to take care of and support each other.
