뮤지컬에 나타난 반연극 특성 연구 ╶ 뮤지컬 ‘맨 오브 라만차’를 중심으로╶

국문 초록

본 연구는〈맨 오브 라만차〉에 나타나는 반연극의 특성을 서사극과 부조리극, 메타극의 관점에서 바라보았다. 반연극 특성은 관객의 감정이입과 몰입을 거부하고 관객의 객관적인 사고를 유도하는 극으로, 관객과 무대의 능동적 소통을 가능케 하고 관객으로부터 무대 위의 사건을 통해 비판적 사고와 능동적 사유를 하게 한다. 본 연구는 20세기에 나타나는 이러한 관객의 주체적 변화를<맨 오브 라만차>에 나타나는 서사극, 부조리극, 블랙코미디, 메타극의 요소 분석을 통해 살펴볼 것이다. 본 연구는 이 작품에 나타나는 반연극의 여러 실험형태들 중 무대와 관객의 ‘거리 두기’와 서사적 인물을 통해 서사극적 요소를 살펴보고, ‘낯설게 하기’와 ‘순환적 구성’의 극장치를 통해 부조리극 요소를 살펴볼 것이다. 또한 비극적 웃음과 웃음이 주는 모순, 웃음이 주는 철학적 세계관을 통해 블랙 코미디적 요소를 살펴볼 것이며, 마지막으로 ‘해체된 삽입형식의 극중극’ 구조와 인생과 무대의동일성 원리를 통해 메타극적 요소를 살펴볼 것이다. 이러한 다양한 형태의 반연극적 특성들은 컨셉 뮤지컬 연구의 외연을 넓히고 그 한계를 넘어서는데 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

영문 초록

This study examines the Anti-theatre characteristics of “Man of La Mancha” from the viewpoints of epic theater, absurd theater, and metatheatre. First, the elements of epic theater are investigated through ‘distancing’ between the stage and audience and the epic characters. Then, the elements of absurd theater are investigated through the theatrical devices of ‘defamiliarization’ and ‘cyclical structure.’ Furthermore, the black comedy elements in Anti-theatre are found through tragic laughter, the contradiction of laughter, and the philosophical world view of laughter from the viewpoint of absurd theater. Finally, for the metatheatre elements, the identity of life and stage is examined through the structure of “a play within a play of the disassembled insertion type.” These theaters of the modern experimental forms provide us with alternatives for overcoming problems because they deal with instructional philosophy and social issues. Anti-theatre is characterized by rejection of the empathy and immersion of the audience and encouragement of the objective thinking of the audience. The effect of Anti-theatre is that it enables communication between audience and stage, and the audience can experience critical thinking and active reasoning through the events on the stage. This independent change of the audience has been used in epic theater, absurd theater, black comedy, and metatheatre, and allows us to have a variety of perspectives about the theater of the modern experimental forms.
