백제 임류각과 ‘류(流)’자명 기와

국문 초록

임류각(臨流閣)은 서기 500년(동성왕 22) 봄 백제 동성왕에 의하여건축된 웅진시대의 대표적 건축물이다. 높이는 5장, 최소 2층 정도의건축물이어서 건축 측면에서도 중요하고, 연못과 함께 구성함으로써 고대 조경으로서도 매우 의미가 크다. 임류각의 위치에 대해서는 그동안 많은 논란이 있었고, 현재는 1980년에 발굴된 건물지가 공식적으로는 ‘임류각지’로 되어 있다. 그러나 초석을 사용한 이 건물지가 백제보디 늦은 시기의 건물지로 인식됨에 따라 임류각의 위치는 재검토를 피할 수 없게 되었다. 본고는 백제 임류각의 위치로서, 공산성의 동북쪽에 위치한 현재 영은사 자리를 지목하였다. 바로 앞에서 백제시대 지당이 확인된 곳이기도 해서, 건축과 연못을 셋트로 한 궁궐 관련 조경 시설 기록과도 부합한다. 검토의 과정에서 백제 연못 발굴과정에서 확인된 ‘류’자 명 기와에 대해서도 임류각과의 연계 가능성을 제기 하였다.

영문 초록

YimRyuGak (臨流閣) was a building constructed by Baekje’s King Dong-seong in spring A.D. 500 (the 22nd year of King Dongseong) representingUngjin Baekje era. It was 5 Jang tall, at least 2 stories building tall. It is highly valuable in the aspects of not only architecture but also ancient landscaping which was constructed with a pond. The location of YimRyuGak has been controversial so far. Today, the building area excavated in 1980 is regarded officially as YimRyuGak buil-ding area. As cornerstone was used in this building area, however, it has been recognized as a building area later than that of Baekje. Such building area, therefore, can not avoid being re-examined. As the location of Baekje YimRyuGak, this study pointed out YoungEun-Sa Buddhist Temple located in the northern-east area away from GongSan-Seong fortress. In front of the temple, a pond of Baekje era was identified,so that its area meets also the record of palace related landscaping facility that sets architecture and pond in combination. While looking into, this study also suggested the possibility that the roof tile carved with the letter pronounced ‘Ryu’ excavated during the excavation process of a Baekje’s pond may have been related with YimRyuGak.
