최인훈의 소설 <구운몽> 연구

국문 초록

본고에서는 최인훈의 <구운몽>을 중심으로 김만중의 고전소설 구운몽의 전통계승과 변화정도를 ‘서사구조’와 ‘팔선녀’의 역할을 통해 밝혀보았다. 최인훈 소설의 주인공은 김만중의 구운몽에 나오는 ‘성진’과 ‘양소유’처럼 액자 안의 주인공은 ‘독고 민’의 서사로 서사행위가 이뤄지며, 액자 밖의 주인공은 ‘김용길 박사’의 서사에 크게 의존하고 있다. 그런데 최인훈의 관념 우세적인 작업방식은 양 서사를 “조선원인고” 필름내로 한정하면서 시사회에 참석한 빨간 넥타이로 상징되는 젊은이 민이라는 제3의 인물을 등장시켜 이중 액자구조로 그 틀을 발전시켜 놓았다. 또 ‘팔선녀’의 역할을 찾아보면 현대사회의 제반 복잡성을 안내하는 역할을 할 뿐 사랑을 나누고 함께 해로하는 고전의 전통은 답습하고 있지 않다. 팔선녀를 찾는 '민'의 몽유병적인 방황과 '박사'의 의학적 탐색은 팔선녀의 지그재그식 등장과 더불어 세 인물의 서사에 모두 나타나는데, 覺夢의 단계라 부를 수 있는 '젊은이 민'의 서사의 결말로서 영원한 사랑의 지속을 이중액자 밖에서 보여주는 것으로 이 소설의 주제를 삼고 있다. 결론적으로 최인훈의 <구운몽>은 김만중의 『구운몽』의 서사구조를 변형 발전시켜 전개하고 있다. 또한 김만중의 『구운몽』에서 결론으로 내세운 무상감과 해탈로 읽히는 주제의 외형과 달리, 최인훈의 <구운몽>에서는 내적 주제인 사랑이 적극적으로 표출되는 변화를 읽을 수 있다. '숙'의 변형인물들인 팔선녀의 역할 및 의미의 변화가 제반 사회현상에 빗대어 복잡하면서도 다양하게 나타난 것이 복잡하게 전개시킨 서사구조와 잘 조응하고 있다. ‘서사구조’와 ‘팔선녀’의 역할을 살펴볼 때 최인훈의 소설 <구운몽>은 김만중의 고전소설 구운몽의 전통을 상당부분 계승하면서 또한 변화시켰음을 확인할 수 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of the paper is to study succession and change of the narrative structure through 『Goo Woon Mong(A Dream of Nine Clouds)』 by Choi In-hoon. It seems that Choi In-hoon has parodied his work from 『Goo Woon Mong』(The classical novel in Chosun Dynasty) by Kim, Maan-jung. So I found not only the narrative structure through 『Goo Woon Mong』 by Choi In-hoon as similar as it by Kim, Maan-jung but also different. First of all, Kim, Maan-jung showed a structure of frame whose 'Seong-jin' with 'Yang, So-yu' out and in of frame in his novel 『Goo Woon Mong』 as Choi In-hoon did 'Doctor Kim, Yeong-kil' with 'Dockko, Min' out and in of frame. But Choi In-hoon who has known more intellectual and ideological writer expressed there awaken dream is out of a film of “Chosun Won In Go(Research of primitive men in Chosun)” which a pair of lovers have watched. Then a structure of frame in Kim's expanded structure of dual frame in Choi's with Min as one of the lovers who was wearing Red necktie. The secondly, Kim, Maan-jung represented eight celestial maiden who were becoming Yang, So-yu's wives harmony in of the frame can compare with Choi In-hoon transformed eight celestial maiden to be played leading all of the narrative structure in his work. At last, eight celestial maiden in Choi's revealed a conclusion which is a symbol of eternal love with conditions of awaken dream. In conclusion, it seems to me that 『Goo Woon Mong』 by Choi inherited and expanded the narrative structure in 『Goo Woon Mong』 by Kim. However Choi In-hoon created showing theme which is what a forever love not to the vanity in Kim's.
