조정권 시에 나타난 만년의 양식과 그 의미

국문 초록

이 논문은 만년의 양식이라는 측면에서 조정권 시를 볼 수 있을지의 문제를 시론적으로 살펴본 논문이다. 사이드는 『말년의 양식에 관하여』에서 “깨달음과 즐거움 간의 모순을 해결하지 않고 둘 모두를 그대로 드러내는 힘은 말년의 양식의 특징”이라 말하며 “반대 방향으로 팽팽하게 맞서는 두 힘을 긴장 속에 묶어둘 수 있는 것은, 오만한 태도를 버리고 오류가능성을 부끄러워하지 않으며 노년과 망명으로 인해 신중한 확신을 얻은 예술가가 가진 성숙한 주체성”이라 말한 바 있다. 상호 이질적이며, 어떤 면에서는 전혀 반대편에 위치해 있는 듯한 시적 특성이 동시적으로 존재한다는 것, 그리고 그것을 드러내는 것을 부끄러워하거나 안타까워하지 않으면서, 그리고 어느 하나를 추구함으로써 다른 하나를 삭제하거나 지양하는 것이 아니라 그 둘을 동시에 드러내는 것을 만년의 양식이라는 측면에서 살필 수도 있으리라 생각된다. 조정권 시의 뚜렷한 특징, 곧 모더니즘적 경향과 동양 미학적 특징의 동시적 존재는 이러한 양식을 잘 보여주는 사례라 할 것이기 때문이다. 깨달음과 즐거움, 이것은 고통을 겪은 이가 얻을 수 있는 최대한 축복이라 할 수 있는바 이러한 축복을 시적으로 형상화한 것이 조정권의 시, 특히 생의 만년에 이르러 그가 쓴 시라고 해도 되지 않을까 생각된다. 부끄러움이나 오만함을 모두 버리고 시적 사유 그 자체에 집중하여 오로지 시를 통해서만 삶의 완성이라는 목표 지점에 도달하고자 한 여정이 바로 조정권의 시적 여정이다.

영문 초록

This paper examines the question of whether Cho, Jung-gwon's poetry can be seen from the aspect of the late style. Edward Said said, “The power to reveal both as they are without resolving the contradiction between enlightenment and pleasure is a characteristic of the late style” in 『On late style』 What exists is the mature subjectivity of an artist who has abandoned his arrogant attitude and is not ashamed of fallibility, and who has gained careful conviction due to old age and exile.” The fact that poetic characteristics that are mutually heterogeneous and seem to be located in some way completely opposite to each other exist simultaneously, and without being ashamed or sorry for revealing them, and by pursuing one, it is not to delete or abolish the other, but to I think that revealing both at the same time can be looked at from the aspect of the style of later years. It is because the distinct characteristics of Cho Jung-gwon's poetry, that is, the simultaneous existence of modernist tendencies and oriental aesthetic characteristics, can be said to be a good example of this style. Realization and joy can be said to be the greatest blessings that can be obtained by those who have suffered, and it is thought that it can be said that the poems of Jo Jung-gwon, especially those written in the later years of his life, symbolize these blessings poetically. Cho Jung-gwon's poetic journey is the journey to reach the goal of completing life only through poetry by discarding all shame or arrogance and focusing on poetic thought itself.
