국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 손자녀 돌봄이 조모의 우울에 미치는 영향을 분석하고 손자녀 돌봄지원 정책에대한 함의를 도출하는 것이다. 역할 갈등 이론의 관점에서 손자녀 돌봄 역할은 조모에게 추가적 부담으로 작용하여 우울수준을 높일 수 있다. 실증분석을 위하여 여성가족패널 7차와 8차 자료를 결합하여 처치집단(돌봄집단)과 비교집단(미돌봄집단)을 구성하였고 성향점수매칭을 통해 집단 간 동질성을 확보하였다. 손자녀 돌봄의 순수효과를 추정하기 위해 고정효과 모형에 근거한 이중차분법을 활용하였다. 분석 결과, 손자녀를 돌보는 조모의 우울감이 비교집단보다 더 큰 것으로 나타났다. 돌봄 특성은 차치하고 손자녀 돌봄 역할 자체가 조모에게 심리적 부담으로 작용하는 것이다. 결론에서는 이러한 결과에 비추어 정책적 함의를 제시하고 이 연구의 한계점 및 후속 연구과제를 제안하였다.

영문 초록

This study aims to investigate the effects of grandchildren caregiving on grandmothers’ depression and to derive implications for grandchildren care support policies. Role conflict theory argues that a grandchildren caregiving role may increase grandmothers’ risk of depression because the role places an extra burden on grandmothers. The 7th and 8th waves of the Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families were used to create a treatment group (caregiving group) and a control group (non-caregiving group), and Propensity Score Matching was implemented to ensure comparability between the two groups. Double Difference was implemented using a fixed-effects regression to estimate the net effect of grandchildren caregiving. The results showed that grandmothers caring for their grandchildren had a higher risk of depression than individuals in the control group. Put differently, setting aside characteristics of caregiving, the grandchildren caregiving role itself imposed a psychological burden on grandmothers. Policy implications were suggested in light of these findings, and limitations of this study were presented in the conclusion.
