국문 초록

2011년 3월 11일의 동일본대지진은 일본 사회에 큰 충격을 주었고, 이후 재난의 역사와 그 대응을 역사교육에 반영하도록 하였다. 재난에 관한 관심은 자연스럽게 생태환경을 고려할 수밖에 없고 그래서 마나비샤, 도쿄서적, 제국서원 등을 중심으로 생태환경의 요소를 많이 반영한 것으로 보인다. 일본의 중학교 역사 교과서는 생태감수성을 높일 수 있는 서술을 보여준다. 일본사와 세계사가 통합적으로 구성되어 있으며, 세계사는 일본사에 비해 서술 분량이 적지만 생태환경을 고려한 의미 있는 시도를 하고 있다. 인류의 역사에서 긴 시간을 차지하는 선사시대의 비중을 높이거나, 동식물에 관한 내용을 담으려고 하였다. 서양의 ‘신항로 개척’과 산업 혁명이 가져온 생태환경의 파괴를 언급하고 있다. 전근대 일본사의 경우 농경 생활, 자연관, 자연재해 및 이를 극복하는 인간의 삶 등을 보여준다. 근현대 일본사는 산업화로 인한 사회의 변화와 더불어 인간과 환경에 어떤 영향을 미쳤는지 드러낸다. 특히 공해 문제를 자세히 다루고 있다. 일본이 산업화 과정에서 겪은 역사적 경험을 반영한 것이다. 일본을 공포로 몰아넣었던 지진, 쓰나미, 핵 문제 등에 대한 기억을 교과서에도 선명하게 드러난다. 그리고 교과서의 말미에 지속가능한 발전이 어떻게 가능한 지 과제로 제시하고 있다. 교과서 전반에 흐르는 서사는 개발과 성장이라 할 수 있다. 그러면서도 재난의 역사적 경험이나 기후 문제 등을 반영하고 있다. 생태 감수성을 높이고 파국에 대한 인식을 공유하고 이에 대비하려는 자세는 높이 살만한 부분이다. 그러나 재난을 국가주의 방식으로 활용하는 것은 위험성을 안고 있으며, 생태환경 문제를 일국사의 문제로 보는 것 역시 한계를 안고 있는 접근법이다. 일본의 사례를 통해 진전된 부분은 수용하면서도 극복해야 할 지점 역시 명확히 할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

Tohoku Region Pacific Coast Earthquake on March 11, 2011 gave a great shock to Japan, and the history of the disaster and its response were reflected in history education. The interest in disasters naturally made the ecological environment be considered. Many elements of the ecological environment were reflected in Manavisha(学び舎), Tokyoshoseki(東京書籍), and Teikokushoin(帝國書院). Japanese middle school history textbooks have a narrative that can increase ecological sensitivity. In the field of world history, there are efforts to increase the proportion of prehistoric period or to contain contents about animals and plants. In addition, there are mentions about the various forms of ecological environment destruction brought about by the Great Voyages and the Industrial revolution. The pre-modern Japanese history contains agricultural life, the viewpoint about nature, natural disasters and the life overcoming them. Modern Japanese history reveals how industrialization has affected humans and the environment. In particular, the problem of pollution is dealt with in the field of Japanese history as well as world history. It reflects the historical experience of Japanese society. Memories of earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear issues are clearly emphasized in the history textbooks. The main narrative throughout the textbook can be said the story of development and growth. At the same time, it can be seen that efforts are being made to reflect the historical experience of disasters and climate problems. It can be highly estimated that the history textbooks endeavored to increase ecological sensitivity, share awareness of the disaster, and prepare for it. However, it is dangerous to use disasters in a nationalistic way, and it is also limited to see the ecological environment problem as a matter of national history. It is necessary to accept the progress made by Japan while clarifying the points to be overcome.
