국문 초록

인류의 장구한 경험을 여러 각도에서 들여다보고 탐구하는 역사학습을 통해 학생들은 자신들이 가진 다양한 ‘렌즈’에 따라, 인류의 과거에 관한 이야기를 만들 수 있다. 그리고 그런 이야기를 바탕으로 개인과 사회적 삶과 미래에 대한 상상력이 풍부해질 수 있다. OECD와 UN이 제시한 새로운 교육론을 통해서도 이와 같은 역사교육의 중요성을 확인할 수 있다. 두 국제 문서가 강조한 학생 행위주체성, 변혁 역량 등의 개념은 학생의 자기 형성 과정으로서의 역사교육에 관한 기왕의 논의를 진전시키는 데 유용하다. 또한 ‘손상된 지구를 위한 교육과정’과 같은 아이디어에 담긴 교육 패러다임의 생태적 전환은 역사 교육과정 및 교과서의 오랜 서사적 전통을 반성하도록 한다. 역사교육에서 교육 패러다임의 생태환경적 전환은 ‘생태적 시민으로서의 학생의 자기 형성’에 관한 문제이다. 인간이 세계와 어떤 관계를 맺고 있는가에 대한 역사교육의 인식론적이고 존재론적 전제를 성찰하고 동시에 역사와 인간을 생태적 관계성 속에서 사유하도록 변화시키는데 필요한 교육적 질문을 만들어내자는 절박한 제안이기도 하다. 그러기 위해서는 학생들이 스스로 아득한 과거로부터 지금에 이르기까지, 생태적 존재로서의 인간이 환경 속에서 어떻게 살아왔는가를 역동적으로 살피도록 돕는 역사학습주제를 찾고 개발해야 한다. 이러한 역사학습은 학생들이 생태적 감수성을 깨우고, 오늘날 환경위기를 극복하는데 나서는 주체로서의 의지를 진작시킬 수 있다. 역사학이 담당하고 회복해야 할 공적 역할을 생태환경사와 역사교육의 적극적 제휴와 그것을 통한 교육적 실천으로부터 찾을 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

In the history class, students explore the long experience of mankind from various perspectives. In the process, students will be empowered to look at the past and present, and to imagine possible futures for individuals and society. The new education theory proposed by the OECD and the UN supports the importance of such history education. Two international documents proclaimed the eco-environmental turn of the educational paradigm based on the student's agency and transformative competency. And this can serve as an opportunity to advance the discussion of history education that helps students in the process of self-formation. The long narrative tradition of history curricula and textbooks should be reflected in the light of ideas on the curriculum proposals of the UN report. In the end, the eco-environmental turn of the educational paradigm in history education is a matter of ‘self-formation of students as ecological citizens’ It is also an urgent proposal to reflect on the epistemological and ontological premise of history education on how human beings relate to the world, and at the same time create educational questions necessary to change history and humans to think in ecological relationship. To this end, it is necessary to find and develop a history learning topic that helps students to dynamically examine how humans as ecological beings have lived in the environment from the distant past to the present. Such history learning can awaken students' ecological sensibility and boost their will as subjects to overcome today's environmental crisis. The role that history studies should play and restore for the public can be found in the active alliance between eco-environmental history and history education and educational practice through it.
