조연현 비평과 니체

국문 초록

본고는 조연현의 해방 전후 비평에 나타난 니체 사상을 고찰하는 것을 목표로 한다. 조연현은 해방 전 『국민문학』 과 『동양지광』에 발표한 두 편의 니체론을 통해 반이성, 반근대, 디오니소스, 생의지, 전투를 강조한 바 있다. 해방 직후 그의 비평에도 니체의 영향은 절대적이다. 조연현은 실제비평에서 박두진의 시를 통해 ‘영겁회귀’를, 서정주의 시에서 ‘디오니소스적 도취와 운명애’를, 김동리의 소설에서 ‘허무에의 초극’ 등 니체적 사유를 적극적으로 인유하고 있다. 또한 ‘근대와 반근대의 대립’으로 보고 있는 현대문학사 서술에 있어서도 ‘반근대주의’와 ‘반이성주의’는 명확하게 표명되고 있다. ‘비평적 자의식’을 드러내고 비평을 ‘창작’의 영역으로 끌어올리고자 한 그의 생리 옹호와 창조적 비평론 또한 니체의 영향에 의해 이루어진 것으로 보인다. 니체 철학은 조연현의 실제 비평, 문학사 서술, 비평론에 이르기까지 다양한 형태로 반영되어 있으며, 예술의 독자성과 비평의 독자성을 심화시키고 한국 문학 작품 해석의 지평을 넓히는데 기여했다. 그러나 현실적인 맥락에서 조연현의 일제 말 니체 독법에서 보이는 반근대주의와 투쟁의 강조는 일본의 근대초극론의 한 변형이자 일본의 침략 전쟁을 정당화하는 이데올로기로 작동했다. 해방 이후 조연현의 반근대주의는 좌파 문인단체인 <조선문학가 동맹>과의 대결에서 순수문학 이데올로기를 확립시키기 위한 논리로 작용했다.

영문 초록

In this paper, I examined the literary criticism of Yeon-hyeon Cho which was written before and after Liberation. He emphasized anti-reason, anti-modern,Dionysus, and the will to live, and struggle in two writings related Nietzche. After liberation in his critique, Nietzsche’s influence is absolute. Yeon-hyeon Cho brought Nietzche into his writings. For example, he read ‘Ewige Wieder-Kunft’ in Du-jin Bak’s poem, Dionysus and Amor Fati in Jeon-ju Seo’s poem, nihilism in Dong-ri Kim’s novel. Also he wrote the history of Korean modern literature from a special perspective which took a struggle of modern and anti-modern. He insisted creative and physiological criticism as well as he put the critic into ‘creative’ realm. He was a first critic which have critical consciousness. The philosophy of Nietzsche in Yeon-hyeon Cho’s criticism is reflected in various forms, ranging from critic’s theory, literary history and practical criticism. Also it deepened independence of literary criticism and has contributed to widening the horizons of interpretation. However, in the context of the reality, Nietzsche’s thinking worked as ideology to justify Japan’s war and anti-modernism was ideology against the left literary group and contributed to establish pure literature of South Korean.
