국문 초록

본 연구는 발달장애아동 어머니의 양육부담을 가중시키는 공간적 요인을 살펴보는데 목적이 있다. 성인 비장애인 중심으로 조성된 공간에서 발달장애아동의 가족은 다양한 차원에서의 공간적 어려움을 경험하고 이를 통해 양육부담이 더 가중될 가능성이 높다. 그러나 그동안의 장애-공간 관련 연구는 절대적 공간에만 초점을 맞추어 공간적 어려움의 본질적 문제에 다가가지 못하게 하였다. 이러한 맥락에서 절대적 공간과 관계적 공간 모두를 고려하여 발달장애아동의 어머니가 겪는 공간에서의 어려움을 살펴보고 공간적 요인이 양육부담을 어떻게 심화시키는지 분석하였다. 이를 위하여 현상학적 질적 연구 방법을 수행하여 양육부담을 가중시키는 공간적 요인을 살펴보았다. 연구 결과, ‘불평등한 사적 공간 속에서의 생활’, ‘장애아동의 존재를 고려하지 않는 공적 공간’, ‘돌봄의 책임을 가족과 여성에게 지우는 관계적 공간’의 3가지 중심주제가 도출되었다. 결국, 발달장애아동 어머니의 돌봄부담을 심화시키는 원인은 “불평등한 절대적·관계적 공간”으로 정리해볼 수 있다. 불평등한 절대적·관계적 공간으로 인해 발달장애아동 어머니의 공간 경험과 생활 범위, 취향을 축소시키고 있었다. 또한, 발달장애아동과 어머니를 하나의 단위로 인식하여 돌봄의 책임을 어머니에게 강조하고 있음이 드러났다. 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 미시체계, 중범위체계, 거시체계로 나누어 공간의 개입방안을 구체적으로 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the spatial factors that aggravate the parenting burden of mothers of children with developmental disabilities. In a space centered on adults without disabilities, families of children with developmental disabilities experience spatial difficulties in various dimensions, and this is highly likely to increase the burden of child rearing. However, the research related to disability-space in the past focused only on absolute space, preventing us from approaching the essential problem of spatial difficulties. In this context, considering both absolute and relational spaces, the difficulties experienced by mothers of children with developmental disabilities in space were examined and how spatial factors aggravate the burden of child rearing were analyzed. To this end, a phenomenological and qualitative research method was conducted to examine spatial factors that aggravate the burden of child rearing. As a result of the study, three central themes were derived: ‘Living in unequal private space’, ‘Public space that does not consider the existence of children with disabilities’, and ‘Relational space that places the responsibility of care on families and women’. In the end, the cause of aggravating the burden of care for mothers of children with developmental disabilities can be summarized as “an unequal absolute and relational space”. Due to the unequal absolute and relational space, the spatial experience, life range, and taste of mothers of children with developmental disabilities were reduced. In addition, it was revealed that the mother and the child with developmental disabilities were recognized as a unit, emphasizing the responsibility of caring for the mother. Based on the results of this study, spatial intervention plans were presented in detail by dividing them into micro-system, mid-range system, and macro-system.
