『우츠노미야 타로 일기』를 통해 본 봉오동전투

국문 초록

봉오동전투는 그 관심과 중요성에 비해 연구가 미흡한 부분들이 남아있다. 특히 군사적으로전과 문제나 참전 규모 등은 여전히 논란이 많다. 본고에서는 당시 조선군사령관이었던 우츠노미야 타로가 남긴 『우츠노미야 타로 일기』를 통해 봉오동전투의 상황을 살펴보았다. 첫째, 「홍범도일지」에 보이는 일본군 ‘후원병’과 일본군 상호 교전에 대해 확인해 보았다. 봉오동전투와 관련된개인 일기와 증언록 등을 참조해 보면, 야스카와 추격대 외에 일본군 증원부대가 실재하였던 것으로 판단된다. 일본군의 퇴각과정은 『우츠노미야 타로 일기』를 통해서도 확인 가능하다. 둘째, 일본군 증원부대는 헌병이나 경찰이었던 것으로 추정된다. 『우츠노미야 타로 일기』를 통해서 야스카와 소좌의 추격대 외에 일본군 ‘증원대’가 존재했던 것으로 파악된다. 10월 ‘간도출병’ 상황을참조해 보면, 공식 기록에서 확인 가능한 일본 정규군과 정원 외로 활동하던 헌병을 비롯한 경찰조직이 밀접하게 협조하며 참가한 것으로 판단된다. 셋째, 「봉오동부근전투상보」의 신빙성 문제를 다루어 보았다. 본문 속에 서술된 것처럼 야스카와 추격대가 독립군을 상대로 ‘치열한 교전’을벌이거나 ‘다대한 손해’를 입히기는 어려웠을 것으로 여겨진다. 『우츠노미야 타로 일기』를 통해서 봉오동전투에서 일본군이 불리했던 정황을 짐작해 볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

The Bongo-dong Battle(鳳梧洞戰鬪) in 1920 is one of the most important battles in the War of Independence. Compared to its interest and importance, Bongo-dong Battle still lacks research. In particular, military criminal records and the scale of participation are still controversial. The situation of the Bongo-dong Battle was examined through 『Utsunomiya Taro Diary』 left by Utsunomiya Taro, the commander of the Joseon Army at the time. First, I checked the existence of the Japanese military support unit through 「Hong Beom-do Diary」. The process of Japanese troops' retreat can also be confirmed through 『Utsunomiya Taro Diary』. Second, it is presumed that the Japanese reinforcements were military police(憲兵) or police. Through 『Utsunomiya Taro Diary』, it is understood that the Japanese military's "increase squad" existed in addition to the pursuit team(追擊 隊) of Yasukawa Major(安川少佐). Third, the question of the credibility of 「Bongo-dong Battle Report(鳳梧洞附近戰鬪詳報)」 was dealt with. Through 『Utsunomiya Taro Diary』, it is possible to guess the situation in which the Japanese army was disadvantageous in the Bongo-dong Battle. Regarding the Bongo-dong battle, the Korean data and Japanese data should be cross-verified. In this context, interest in and discovery of Japanese data, including 「Bongo-dong Battle Report」 and 『Utsunomiya Taro Diary』, should continue.
