백제 미륵사지 라직물 금사 자수품 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 백제 미륵사지 석탑 사리장엄구 연구 보고서의 내용 중‘라(羅) 직물 금사 자수품’의 내용을 보완하여, 국내외 사례 조사를 통해 미륵사지 라직물의 제직 특성과 연금사에 대해 재고찰한 것이다. 문헌 기록과 국내의 라직물 출토 사례를 보면, 고대의 라직물은 경사 방향으로 꼬임 있으며 대체로 얇고 비치는 형태로 확인되었다. 그런데 미륵사지 라직물은 비치는 부분과 동시에 치밀한 부분도 나타난다. 특히 치밀하게 짠 부분은 직물 표면에 특이한 굴곡을 만들며 신축성을 부여하게 되므로 당시에는 획기적인 직물이었을 것으로 추정되어, 미륵사지에서 출토된 라직물은 새롭게 조명할 필요가 있다고 본다. 뿐만 아니라 라직물 위에는 초화문 자수가 놓여 있으며, 자수의 테두리 부분에는 금사(金絲)를 사용했다. 선행 연구 보고서를 통해 확인된 재질 정보를 토대로 고대 금사에 대한 X선 조사와 주사전자현미경 분석 자료를 비교 검토함으로써, 미륵사지 금사는 순금의 금판을 가늘게 자르고, 금판 뒷면에는 배지를 대지 않고 금판을 균일하게 말아 감아 제작한 것임을 알 수 있었다. 이는 황남대총과 임당 고분에의 연금사와 동일한 방식이다. ‘라직물’이라는 정교한 제직 기술과 ‘금사’세공 기술로 조합된 미륵사지 자수품은 국내에서는 처음으로 확인되었지만, 주구지의 천수국수장, 둔황의 막고굴, 당대 법문사에서도 확인되는 공양품 또는 장엄구이다. 제작기법 상 모두 라직물 바탕에 금사 또는 채색사로 수를 놓았다는 점과 불교 자수품으로 활용되었다는 점에서 주목하여, 미륵사지 ‘라직물 금사 자수품’은 라직물과 금사 자수로 조합된 자수공예품의 양식으로서 이해할 필요가 있다고 본다.

영문 초록

This study reviews on the gold embroidery on the complex gauze excavated from the stone pagoda of Baekje Mireuksa temple site. Through local and international case studies on embroidery, this study reviewed the weaving properties of complex gauze and gold-wrapped threads. The complex gauze fabrics found in Korea were mostly thin and transparent, but those excavated from the Mireuksa temple site had both sheer parts and densely woven parts. In particular, the dense parts formed unique curves on the surface and were presumed to have made the fabric more elastic. This feature gives new information on the complex gauze fabrics of ancient Korea. In addition, gold threads were used for the rim of the embroidery on the complex gauze. The embroidery pattern is presumed to be herbaceous flower. Based on the material information confirmed through the previous research report, X-ray investigation and Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM) analysis of ancient gold threads were compared and reviewed. Through this, The gold threads from the Mireuksa temple site is made from a pure gold foil finely cut into thin strips without lamella and evenly coiled. This method was same as that of the Hwangnam Daechong tomb and Imdang tomb. Moreover, the Mireuksa style gold embroidery on complex gauze was also found in the artifacts of Tenjukoku Shucho, Dunhuang Magao Caves and Famensi. Therefore, gold embroidery on complex gauze fabrics should be recognized as a single set of crafts.
