한국 장로교단의 생태 인식에 관한 고찰

국문 초록

오늘날 인류에 의해 자행된 환경 파괴와 기후변화로 인한 생태계 위기는 절정에 다다랐다. 인류는 생태 문제의 보류는 지구적 공멸이라는 공감대를 형성하며 이산화탄소 등 온실가스 배출량을 ‘0’으로 만들려는 탄소중립(carbon neutral)을 선언했다. 이에 발맞추어 한국의 종교 단체도 생태 문제에 주목하여 종단 단체별로 활동하고 있다. 이 연구는 인류가 직면한 생태계 공멸이라는 시대적 과제에 따라 개신교 교단 가운데 가장 큰 교세와 위상을 지닌 장로교의 세 주요 교단인 기장, 통합, 합동의 생태 인식을 살피는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이는 세 교단에 속한 개별교회나, 목회자 혹은 신앙인의 개인적 차원에서가 아니라 한국 개신교 혹은 장로교의 주요 세 교단의 교단적 차원에서의 생태에 관한 인식이나 관심은 한국 개신교 전체의 생태 현주소를 보여주는 척도로 작용할 수 있기 때문이다. 이에 주목하여 본고는 점증하는 지구생태계 위기에 즈음하여 세 교단의 생태 인식이 어떠한가를 현상학적으로 파악하고자 한다.

영문 초록

Today, the ecological crisis caused by environmental destruction and climate change perpetrated by humankind has reached its climax. Humanity has declared a goal of carbon neutrality to reduse greenhouse gas emissions of such chemicals as carbon dioxide to “zero.” It has come to the consensus that the neglect of ecological problems is equivalent to global co-destruction. In line with this, religious groups in Korea are also paying attention to ecological issues and are working with religious groups. The purpose of this study is to examine the ecological awareness of the three main denominations of the Presbyterian Church, Gijang(기장), Tonghab(통합), and Habdong(합동), which have the largest numbers and most status among Protestant denominations in Korea. The perception or interest in ecology at the religious level of Presbyterian churches in Korea, not at the personal level of individual churches, pastors, or believers, can serve as a measure of the ecological status of the entire Korean Protestant church. Paying attention to this, this paper attempts to phenomenologically understand the ecological awareness of the three denominations in the face of the increasing global ecological crisis.
