영남소재 상장기업의 재무적 특성과 보고품질

국문 초록

본 연구는 영남소재(대구, 경북, 부산, 울산, 경남) 상장기업의 재무적 특성을 살펴보았다. 지방소재 기업은판매시장 규모나 물류비용 측면에서 수도권 소재 기업보다 불리하지만 중앙정부나 지자체로부터 얻는 보조금과 조세감면 등의 지원을 받을 수 있다는 장점이 있다. 반면 지방소재 기업은 규제기관이나 규모가 큰외부감사인이 상대적으로 멀리 떨어져 있으므로 회계정보에 대한 관리감독이 약화되어 재무보고의 품질이하락할 수 있다. 본 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 영남지역 기업들은 다른 지역에 비해 기업규모가 크고영업현금흐름이 상대적으로 높았다. 둘째, 영남지역 기업들은 시가-장부가 비중이 작고 성장률이 낮았다. 셋째, 영남지역 기업들은 외국인투자지분율과 규모가 큰 감사인(Big4)의 비율이 상대적으로 작았다. 넷째, 영남지역 기업들은 우려와는 달리 발생액의 품질로 측정한 재무보고 품질이 유의하게 높았다. 영남지역은2000년대 초반까지 우리나라의 수출을 주도하는 산업화의 중심지였으나 고부가가치 산업의 출현과 공장의해외이전 및 중국에 대한 교역이 증가하면서 점차 경제적 비중이 줄어들기 시작하였다. 본 연구의 결과는영남지역 기업이 보고품질 측면에서 긍정적이지만 제 4차산업혁명시대에 맞는 고부가가치 산업으로 전환이시급함을 의미한다. 본 연구는 영남지역 기업의 재무적 특성과 보고품질을 살펴본 연구로 지역사회에게 중요한 시사점을 제시하고 있다.

영문 초록

This study examines the financial characteristics and financial reporting quality of listed companies in Yeongnam (Daegu, Gyeongbuk, Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam) region. Local companies are disadvantaged compared to companies in the metropolitan area in terms of sales market and logistics costs, but they have the advantage of being able to receive subsidies and tax reductions from the central or local governments. On the other hand, in local companies, the quality of financial reporting may deteriorate as regulatory agencies and large-scale external auditors are relatively far away, weakening the management and inspection of account-ing information. The results of this study are as follows. First, The companies in the Yeongnam region have financial characteristics that are larger in size and relatively high in operating cash flow than in other regions. Second, companies in the Yeongnam region have a small share of market-book value, a low growth rate, and a large proportion of companies at a loss. Third, companies in the Yeongnam region have a relatively small proportion of large auditors(Big4). Fourth, the quality of financial reporting with accruals quality, contrary to expectations, is significantly high. The Yeongnam region was the center of industrialization leading Korea's exports until the early 2000s, but gradually declined as high value-added industries emerged, factories moved abroad, and the proportion of trade with China increased. Our results imply that companies in the Yeongnam region urgently need to switch to high value-added industries. This study has great implications as it is the first study to examine the financial characteristics and reporting quality of the Yeongnam region companies.
