풍선의 물성을 이용한 도자조형연구

국문 초록

공예분야는 소재에 대한 이해가 중요한 부분이며, 같은 재료라 할지라도 제작자의 성형방법에 따라 다 르게 표현된다. 이러한 방법은 작가의 특성이 되며, 창의적인 생각과 의도로 해석되기에 중요한 부분이다. 기존에 도자분야에서 사용한 물레성형의 대칭적 형태나 캐스팅기법의 예상 가능한 형태보다는 색다른 성형방법에 대한 형태적 호기심이 연구의 배경이 되었다. 특징적인 요소로서 재료의 물성과 함께 우연 적인 손의 움직임에 따라 형태가 완성되는데, 이 과정에서 손의 동작, 강도, 위치를 통해 형태변화를 다 양하게 시도하는 것이 연구의 중심이 된다. 신축성 있는 풍선에 경화성이 특징인 석고를 주입하여 순간적인 손의 움직임으로 형태를 제작하고자 하였다. 이 과정에서 재료의 물성을 연구자가 어떻게 해석하여 다루었는지, 풍선을 활용한 작업의 특징 적 형태가 무엇인지 고찰하는 것이 연구의 목적이다. 이와 함께 풍선에서 변형된 형태를 몰드로 제작하 고 그 몰드로부터 생산된 여러 형태들을 어떤 방식으로 결합하여 재구성하였는지 살펴보고자 한다. 최근에는 도예분야 뿐만 아니라 패션, 가구, 제품 디자인 등에서도 팽창감 있는 풍선 형태들이 많이 활용되고 있다. 분야마다 조금의 차이점은 있지만, 그들이 어떻게 풍선의 특징적 형태를 다루어 활용하 였는지 연구자와의 차이점이 무엇인지 사례를 통하여 고찰해 보고자 한다. 풍선을 활용한 형태제작은 좀 더 확장된 제작방법에 대한 접근이며 다각적인 표현 가능성에 대한 제시이다. 본 연구를 통하여, 도 자 조형분야에 좀 더 유연성 있고 창의적인 표현방식을 모색할 수 있는 계기가 되기를 바란다.

영문 초록

Craft is a crucial part of understanding material that even the same material can be expressed differently depending on the manufacturer’s method of forming. These methods become characteristics of the artist and are important elements to be interpreted as creative thinking and intent. The research stems from the curiosity of forms and its different forming methods alternative to the symmetrical form using wheel throwing or predictable form of plaster throwing that have previously been used in ceramics. Various forms are completed according to the spontaneous movement of the hand along with the material s unique properties. During this process, the research focuses on experimenting the hand movements, strength, and location to see how the factors influence the transformation of the form. The approach is by injecting gypsum, which is known for its hardening quality, into flexible balloons to create shape with the movement of the hands in a moment s action. The purpose of the study is to examine how the researchers interpreted and dealt with the material properties and what are the characteristic forms of the work using balloons. In addition, it is intended to examine how the modified form of the balloon was molded and the various forms produced from the mold were combined and assembled. Recently, many inflatable balloon shapes have been used in fashion, furniture, and product design as well as in ceramics. Although there are some differences in each field, I would like to explore how different designers utilize the distinct forms of balloons and compare their uses with those of researchers. Form production using balloons is an approach to a more expanded method of production and a suggestion of multiple possibilities of expression. Through this research, more flexible and creative ways of expression in the field of formative ceramics will hopefully be explored.
