화조도 도자 부조 벽화에 관한 연구

국문 초록

현대 사회의 주거 및 생활공간들은 단순한 기능적 공간의 개념에서 심미적 기능을 강화 시켜 생활의 편리함과 더불어 독창적이고 미적인 면을 강조한 다양한 양식으로 발전하고 있다. 이에 따른 건축 내⋅외장 인테리어도 다양한 소재의 개발로 이어지고 있으며, 이러한 다양하고 독창적인 건축 내⋅외장 장식용 소재 개발 시도로 나타나는 경향은 도자분야에도 관심이 높아지고 있다. 이에 따라 건물 내⋅외장 도자기 타일 생산과 판매에 나서는 전문 기업들이 많아졌으며, 친환경적인 기능과 다양한 디자인을 추구하고 있다. 또한 도시 미관을 개선하기 위한 노력의 일환으로 도자벽화에 대한 수요도 점점 늘어나고 있는 추세다. 특히 근래 공공디자인의 필요성이 커지고 도시 환경의 개선이 요구되면서 도자 벽화에 대한 전망이 밝다. 근간 공공기관에서 시도하고 있는 도심 속 도자벽화의 설치와 건축 시공사의 주거 공간 아트월(art wall) 설치들은 이러한 분위기를 뒷받침한다. 이에 도자벽화와 장식 타일은 현재 활동하는 도예가들에게 보다 더 적극적인 활동 범위를 넓혀 나가야 할 시장이라 생각한다. 기업들이 대량생산하는 상품화된 디자인 보다는 차별화된 공예적 회화성과 조형성을 부각시킬 수 있는 도자 벽화 및 타일디자인이 필요하다. 이에 수공예적 방식으로 제작한 전통미와 현대미를 융합한 화기애애(花器愛靄)1) 시리즈 도자부조벽화에 대한 조형적 연구는 고부가가치를 창출 할 수 있는 영역으로 이어질 수 있으며, 이러한 조형 탐색들은 기존에 획일적인 사각형 도판 장식과 단일 패턴 배열 형식에서 탈피 할 수 있을 뿐 아니라, 자유로운 공간적 배치를 통해 회화성을 강조할 수 있다. 우리에게 친근한 전통의 민화의 주제인 화조 문양의 도자로 제작한 부조 벽화는 한국미의 특징인 여백의 미를 수용하고, 수공예적인 장식용 도자로서, 생활환경과 밀접한 도자예술로서 주거 공간의 개선에 기여 할 것으로 기대한다.

영문 초록

Modern society is witnessing continuous addition of functionally specialized buildings, and the exterior and interior designs to suit such functionality are getting diverse. Such trends provide vigor to the ceramic industry, leading to a variety of attempts for interior designs utilizing ceramics at home and public institutions. The trend also resulted in increase of specialized providers of exterior and interior designs with ceramic tiles that pursue eco-friendly functionality and diverse designs. As a part of efforts to improve urban landscapes, demand for ‘art tiles’ is on the rise too. Thus it can be said that the ceramic-based art tile industry has bright future along with increased demand for aesthetic design of public spaces and demand for improvement of urban environments. Recent installation of ceramic walls in cities attempted by public institutions and art walls by construction companies support such an atmosphere. Thus the ceramic wall decorations and decorative tiles provide the market that requires currently active ceramists to expand their scope of activities. Rather than mass-produced, uniform and commercial designs from companies, ceramic tile designs with emphasis on differentiated artistic pictoriality and formativeness are required. This study has attempted for a research and formative exploration into the new realm of relief tiles with the ‘Hwagiaeae2)’ series that combines traditional aesthetics and modern beauty. Such formative exploration evades standardized square plate decorations and sequences of single pattern, while the study on the relief tiles has enabled production of relief tiles with traditional and familiar patterns of flowers and birds. The relief tiles with flower and bird patterns seeks the beauty of space, which is a feature of Korean beauty, and the manual production system of handcrafted and diverse decorative ceramic art tiles can be evolved into the mass-production system for the ultimate contribution to development of ceramic art and improvement of living environment.
