평안경(平安京) 신천원(神泉苑)의 조영(造營) 목적(目的)과 특징(特徵)

국문 초록

본 논고는 平安京 神泉苑의 造營 목적과 특징을 해명하는 데 초점을 두었다. 神泉苑은 奈良시대에 조영된 平城京과 長岡京의 諸 정원과는 명확히 구분되는 정원이었다. 즉 平城京과 長岡京에 존재했던 다수의 정원은 平安京에서는 平安宮 남쪽에 위치한 神泉苑 한 곳에 집중되었고, 정원과 관련된 모든 시설은 神泉苑 내에 설치되었다. 그리고 사용형태에 있어서도 이전의 정원과는 분명한 차이가 있었다. 平城京과 長岡京의 諸 정원이 천황의 감상, 유락의 場이었을 뿐만 아니라 통치자에 따라 그것의 사용빈도는 달랐지만 국가행사와 관련된 의식과 향연의 場으로 사용되었던 반면，桓武천황기에 神泉苑은 천황의 私的 공간으로서 遊覽과 宴會의 場으로 사용되었다. 이와 같은 桓武천황기 神泉苑의 사용형태는 平城·嵯峨천황기에 그곳이 7월 7일 節會와 9월 9일 重陽의 場으로 고정되었던 사실을 통해서 볼 때도 특수한 것이었다. 桓武천황이 새로운 양식의 정원을 平安京에 조영한 이유는, 보다 강력한 皇權을 구축하고자 했던 桓武천황의 정치적인　의도에 있었다. 즉 桓武천황은 政界에서 천황의 주도권을 확립하고 정치를 一新하기 위해 長岡京 遷都를, 그리고 보다 계획적인 宮都 공간에서 새로운 皇權을 구축하기 위해 平安京 遷都를 단행하였다. 平安京에 천황의 私的 공간인 神泉苑이 조영되었던 이유는 바로 이와 같은 桓武천황의 정치적인　의도에　의한　것이었다．　한편 神泉苑의 原型은 扶餘의 宮南池와 渤海의 上京龍泉府 정원이 그 가능성으로서 追究되었다. 평면구조의 유사성과 당시 양국의 외교관계로 볼 때 神泉苑이 渤海의 上京龍泉府 정원을 모델로 해서 조영 되었을 가능성이 상정된다. 神泉苑은 보다 강력한 皇權을 확립하기를 원했던 桓武천황이 渤海와의 교류를 통해 얻은 정보를 적극적으로 사용한 결과였으며, 또한 古代 동아시아 세계에서 渤海를 의식한 행위였던 것이다.

영문 초록

This paper is focused on a building purpose and the characteristic of the Shinsen-en(神泉苑）in the Heian-kyo(平安京). The Shinsen-en was different from the gardens of the Heijo-kyo(平城京）and the Nagaoka-kyo(長岡京). The gardens in the Heijo-kyo and the Nagaoka-kyo were intensively located in the Shinsen-en where was in the south of the Heian-kyu(平安宮). And the facilities of gardens were in the Shinsen-en. And the usage of gardens was clear different from the usage of former gardens. Not only gardens of the Heijo-kyo and the Nagaoka-kyowere used as a place of the enjoyment of the Emperor and the play comfort, but also were used as a place of a national event, rites and banquets. However, these were frequently varied by a ruler. In the Emperor Kanmu period(桓武천황기), the Shinsen-en, as the place of the Emperor was used of excursion and banquet. The use form of the Shinsen-en in the Emperor Kanmu period was very special. In the Emperor Heizei period(平城천황기) and the Emperor Saga period(嵯峨천황기), it was used as ceremonial sites in July 7 and the Chrysanthemum Festival(重陽) in September 9. The Emperor Kanmu built the new style of gardens in the Heian-kyo. There was political intention to strengthen the royal authority. In other words, he transferred the capital to the Heian-kyo to seize the initiative of royal authority and renew the political intention. Also he wanted to strengthen royal authority in the more planned capital space. The reason why the Shinsen-en was built as a personal space of the Emperor was political intention to strengthen the royal authority. On the other hand, there was possibility that South pond of a royal palace in Buyeo(扶餘宮南池) and the garden of the Sanggyeong Yongcheonbu in the Balhae(渤海上京龍泉府) were the models of the Shinsen-en. From the similarity of planar structure and the relationship between two countries, the Shinsen-en was more likely to be built with the garden of the Sanggyeong Yongcheonbu in the Balhae. The Shinsen-en was built as a result that the Emperor Kanmu who wanted to strengthen royal authority had interchanged with the Balhae and was aware of the Balhae in ancient East Asia.
