『삼국유사』 소재 신라 <만파식적> 설화의 수용 양상과 드라마 <더 킹: 영원의 군주> 분석 사례

국문 초록

오늘날 고전 작품을 활용한 문화콘텐츠 관련 논의가 활발하게 이루어지고 있다. 고전문학 연구자들이 문화콘텐츠에 관심을 기울인지 오랜 시간이 흘렀으며 그만큼 다양한 연구 성과들이 등장했다. 고려가요 <쌍화점>이 영화로 재탄생하거나, 신라시대의 유명한 <처용가>는 현대음악으로 재해석되거나 뮤지컬로 변용되기도 한다. 이처럼 콘텐츠 창작자들은 계속해서 새로운 방식으로 과거의 작품들을 현대적으로 바꾸어 놓는다. 이렇게 재탄생한 작품들은 창작자가 원작의 등장인물들에게 어떤 설정을부여하느냐에 따라 성격과 서사가 달라진다. 고전 작품들이 문화콘텐츠로 새롭게 수용될수록 원전에 대해 달리 해석해볼 여지를 남겨주기도 하며 이는 문화 산업에도 큰발전이 된다. 설화 <만파식적>은 고전서사에서 발전시킨 서사 생산물에서부터 연극, 무용극, 드라마 등 다양하게 확산되어 왔다. <만파식적> 문화콘텐츠의 성공적인 변용은 이후 생산되는 다양한 문화콘텐츠에 영향을 끼쳤다. 처음에는 『삼국유사』 소재 <만파식적> 을 번역한 연구 서적이 등장했다. 그 이후에는 원전의 스토리를 중심으로 한 동화책이 출간되었고, 점차 창작자들의 생각이나 창의성이 삽입되면서 새로운 느낌의 콘텐츠들이 탄생하였다. 따라서 고전 작품들이 현대에 와서는 단순히 기존 스토리만 있는것이 아니라 소재를 활용하여 새로운 이야기를 만들어 내거나 기존의 원전 스토리에서 등장인물을 각색, 변형하여 색다르게 표현하기도 한다. 그중에서도 2020년에 방영된 드라마 <더 킹: 영원의 군주>에서는 설화의 다양한부분들을 활용하여 스토리로 표현하였다. 신문왕의 장인이었던 김흠돌이 반란을 일으킨 것처럼 주인공 이곤의 큰아버지 이림이 역모를 꾸미는가 하면, 대나무가 낮에는둘 밤에는 하나가 되는 설화의 서사처럼 드라마에서도 만파식적이 반 토막이 되어버리는 연출이 등장한다. 또한 용이 등장하여 신문왕을 도와주는 설화처럼 드라마에서도 만파식적의 현신이라 할 수 있는 요요소년이 등장하여 주인공 일행을 돕는다. 다양한 판타지적인 요소가 가득 담겨있는 드라마는 <만파식적>의 스토리를 답습한 것으로 보인다. 이 결과를 보면 <만파식적>을 활용한 다양한 콘텐츠들과 드라마에서 차용한 설정은 모색해볼 가치가 있다.

영문 초록

Cultural discussions on classical written works are actively taking place today. Various research results have emerged with classical researchers paying attention to cultural content after a considerable period of time. The Goryeo song “Ssanghwajeom” was adapted into a movie, and the famous song “Cheoyongga” of the Silla period was transformed into a modern-day musical. As such, content creators continue to change their past works in a new way. The characters and narratives of these adaptations vary depending on the settings created for the characters in the original work. The increasing acceptance of classical written works as cultural contents is enabling the reinterpretation of original text, which is a great development in the cultural industry. The tale of “Manpasikjeok” has been popularized in various forms, ranging from classical narratives to plays, dance dramas, and dramas. This popularization in has since been affecting all cultural content produced thereafter. A translation of, “ManpaSikjeok”, which is based on the Three Kingdoms, was published. The publication of fairy tales based on the original story followed, and the creators’ thoughts and creativity gradually gave birth to novel content. Therefore, in modern times, classical works do not just have existing stories, but use materials to create new stories or adapt and transform characters from existing nuclear power plant stories to express them differently. Among these adaptations, the 2020 television drama “The King: The Lord of Eternity” used various parts of the original story. Just as Kim Heum-dol, the fatherin-law of the newspaper king, revolted, the main character Lee Gon’s uncle Yi Rim decorated the role, and the drama’s full wave style was halved, just like the narrative of the bamboo becoming one during the day and at night. In addition, like the tale of dragons appearing and helping the king of newspapers, Yo-yo boy, who can be interpreted as the drama s Manpasikjeok, appears to help the main character. The drama, which is full of various fantasy elements, seems to have followed the original story of “Manpasikjeok”. Thus, it is worth looking for various content using “Manpasikjeok” and settings borrowed from dramas.
