문화콘텐츠 속 신윤복의 인물 형상화 방식

국문 초록

이 논문은 신윤복 관련 문화콘텐츠 전반을 정리하고, 당시 신윤복의 콘텐츠적 인기와 당시 사회·문화적 현상과의 상관관계를 확인하였다. 이를 통해 신윤복이라는 인물이 어떤 방식으로 재창작되었는지 살핀 것이다. 신윤복의 콘텐츠적 인기는 2007년 작 『바람의 화원』을 시작으로 출판물, 영상물, 여성국극으로도 창작되었으며, 최근에는 웹툰으로도 창작될 만큼 그 인기를 지속하고 있다. 일명 ‘신윤복 신드롬’이라 불릴 정도로 1~2년 사이에 여러 콘텐츠가 쏟아져 나왔다. 이는 당시 여러 문화적 코드와 맞물린 점과 더불어 신윤복에 대한 사료가 적다는 점이 그 요인으로 보인다. 이는 곧 작가의 상상력을 통해 이야기나 인물을 새롭게 재창작하기 용이하다는 것을 뜻한다. 그 예로 문화콘텐츠에 등장하는 신윤복은 대개 기존 역사 인물에 비해 파격적인 설정으로 그려지고 있다. 다양한 콘텐츠 가운데서도 인물 형상화 양상을 비교할 수 있는 작품은 소설 『바람의 화원』, 영화 「미인도」, 소설 『색, 샤라쿠』로 정리된다. 세 작품은 타 콘텐츠와 비교하여 작가의 상상력을 바탕으로 한 신윤복 캐릭터의 허구적 설정, 인물 간의 관계에서 공통점과 차이점이 두드러지기 때문이다. 『바람의 화원』에서의 신윤복은 사회의 틀에 얽매이지 않고 결국, 자아실현을 이루는 인물로 그려지고 있다. 「미인도」에서는 자신의 정체성과 본신윤연의 욕망에 충실한 인물로 그려졌다. 마지막으문화콘텐로 『색, 샤라쿠』에서는 진짜 스승을 만나 꿈과 삶의 의미를 찾았으며, 사회의 억압이나 부조리함에 대해 고뇌하는 인물로 그려지고 있다. 전문에 의거하여, 다양한 요인으로 인해 문화콘텐츠 속에서 가공된 신윤복은 기존에 알려진 신윤복과 크게 다르다. 즉, 신윤복이라는 인물은 여러 문화콘텐츠를 통해 다양한 모습으로 형상화되었으며, 대중들의 신윤복에 대한 인식의 변화를 불러일으켰다는 것이다. 이러한 과정은 한 인물이 민담이나 설화, 야사 등을 통해 기존의 사실과 다른 방향과 이야기로 전승되는 것과 비슷한 양상을 보이므로, 향후 인물 전승 양상과 관련된 연구로도 이어질 수 있을 것으로 보인다.

영문 초록

According to the intention of transmitters, various fictional factors, by means of exaggeration or expansion of facts, are often created on the surface of historical characters. In addition, historical figures reflect the intentions of their transmitters, resulting in different compositions and character descriptions. Therefore, the depiction of a character called Shin Yoon-bok is bound to be more influenced by those who depict him. This is because there are many parts that are difficult to determine as authentic, so it affects the overall perception of the public depending on what points of the character are highlighted. It is difficult to know Shin s life history exactly due to the scarcity of historical records of him. However, this may be an advantage in that a writer’s imagination can play a crucial role in passing down new stories. For this reason, numerous cultural contents related to him were created, to the degree that it was called Shin Yoon-bok syndrome. Shin s popularity began with the 2007 novel Painter of the Wind, which spawned a variety of contents including related books, videos, and a women s play (gukgeuk, a Korean traditional musical play in which female actors play both female and male roles), and has continued to be popular enough to be featured in webtoons. Among the various contents, the works that allow us to compare the transmission patterns of characters are the novel Painter of the Wind, the movie Portrait of a Beauty, and the novel Color, Sharaku. Compared to other contents, these three works stand out in the fictional setting of Shin s character based on the creator s imagination and the commonalities and differences in the relationships among characters. According to actual historical records, Shin lived the life of a wanderer and satirized the aristocrats of his time by drawing reality through genre paintings. He is depicted as the main character again in modern times, and in Painter of the Wind, he is portrayed as a character not bound by social norms and one who eventually achieved what he wanted to do in life. In Portrait of a Beauty, he is depicted as a person who was faithful to his identity and natural desires. Finally, in Color, Sharaku, he is described as a person who met a real teacher and found the meaning of life and his dreams, but again agonized over the oppression and absurdity of social norms. Despite being a renowned genre painter, the life story of the character Shin Yoon-bok did not receive much attention due to the dearth of historical records. The unconventional themes in his works were so innovative that it was rare to see them in other artists paintings at the time. This is in line with the image of a self-initiating and creative artist demanded by modern society. The fact that the character Shin Yoon-bok has been resurrected in modern times and reproduced as cultural content reflects the values sought by modern people.
