국문 초록

碑誌類는 사람을 대상으로 한 것과 사물을 대상으로 한 것으로 나누어 볼 수 있다. 사물을 대상으로 한 것은 雜記類에 가깝고, 사람을 대상으로 한 것은 記人文學이라는 범주에 드는 것으로, 哀祭類나 傳狀類의 성격과 공통점을 가지고 있다. 崔致遠 이후 조선 중기에 이르기까지 비지문에 대한 우리나라 역대 작가들의 인식은 그다지 급격한 변화를 보이지는 않았으며, 조선 중기 이후에 와서야 비지 창작에 따른 제반 문제들이 제기되었다. 그리하여 사실에 충실해야 한다는 본연의 규범을 지키면서도 창작의 참신성을 추구하였고, 조선 후기에 이르러서는 비문의 作者層과 享有層의 下向化 현상이 나타나게 되었다. 또 기록이라는 본연의 취지 외에 主題를 도입하고 작자의 傾向性을 표출하는 경향이 강해지면서, 실용문이면서도 문학성을 겸비하려는 모습을 보여준다. 비지류는 비교적 엄격한 규범을 갖고 있는 文體이기 때문에, 그에 대한 인식이나 撰述에 있어서의 글투 등에서 발상의 전환을 찾아보기 어려운 반면, 그러한 규범을 벗어나지 않는 범위 안에서 문학성을 추구하여 이룬 성과는 그 나름으로 의미가 있다고 할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

Epitaphs can be classified into the ones which are on persons and the others which are on things. The epitaphs on things are similar to miscellaneous notes, and the epitaphs on persons belong to the genre of comprehensive biography, i.e., biography which includes epitaph, and eulogy, as well as biography. The epitaphs on persons share some characteristics with eulogies and biographies. Past Korean authors concepts on epitaphs had not changed drastically between Choi chi-won s time and mid-Chosun dynasty age. Only after mid-Chosun dynasty age, the issues related with creating epitaphs were raised, and thus, originality in writing epitaphs also became pursued, while the original norm that an epitaph should be truthful to facts was still adhered to. And in late-Chosun dynasty age, some people of lower classes came to join writing and using epitaphs. Also, as the trend became stronger to add themes and expressions of authors values inclinations to the originally intended nature of the epitaphs as documentary records, the attempts appeared to attain both practicality and literariness in the epitaphs. The epitaphs belong to a genre which has relatively strict norms, and it is not easy to find shifts of thought in terms of the conception regarding the genre, and style of writing, etc. Still, achievements attained by seeking literariness without violating the norms could be considered meaningful in some ways.
