조선후기 野談에 나타난 ‘治産談’의 유형과 성격

국문 초록

조선 후기에는 사회·경제적인 면에서 큰 변화가 일어났으며 이로 인하여 이전 시기에는 일어날 수 없거나, 일어나기 힘들었던 사건들이 벌어졌다. 또한 이와 더불어 새로운 인간형들이 창출되었으며, 그와 더불어 많은 개인과 계층들이 독특한 체험들을 하기에 이르렀다. 이런 현상들은 당시의 문학 담당층에 의하여 구연되고 기록되어 문학작품에 다양성을 부여하였는데 본 연구는 이 중에서도 경제활동의 핵심이라고 할 수 있는 ‘재산을 모으는 이야기’에 초점을 맞추어 경제의 문제가 문학에서 어떻게 다루어졌으며 그것이 지니는 의미가 무엇인지를 찾아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 먼저, 조선 후기 야담에 나타난 ‘치산담’을 주인공의 신분, 치산에의 의지 유무, 치산방법의 현실성에 따라 각각 여덟 가지 유형으로 분류하였다. 작품 속 주인공들은 개개인이 당면한 경제적인 문제를 두고, 계층에 따라 다른 목적을 갖고 치산에 임했다. 그리고 주인공이 속한 신분은 치산의 방법은 물론 치산 후일담에까지 영향을 미친다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한 계층에 상관없이 주인공에게 치산의 의지가 있느냐, 없느냐의 문제는 조력자의 성격을 결정짓고, 나아가 현실적인 조력자와 주인공이 서로 施惠者와 受惠者의 관계를 바꾸게 된다는 공통적인 성격도 찾아낼 수 있었다. 이렇게 ‘치산’을 제재로 한 수많은 작품들이 주인공의 신분과 의지, 그리고 치산의 방법에 따라 공통점과 차이점을 지니면서 각각의 단계를 구성하고 서로 유기적으로 관계를 맺고 있다는 것을 살펴볼 수 있었다는 데서 본 연구의 의의를 찾을 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

In the late Choseon Dynasty, there were big social and economical changes, by which many incidents occurred that could not happen or could rarely happen before. With that, new types of humanity were formed and many individuals and social classes underwent unique experiences. These phenomena, which were transmitted by word of mouth, and by written record by literary men, granted diversity of literary works. Amongst these, this study has been to search for how the question of economy was dealt in literature, and what was its significance focusing on ‘The story of accumulating a wealth’, which can be of the kernel of economic activities. First of all for this, ‘The story of accumulating a wealth’, which appeared in the yadam(野談) of the late Choseon Dynasty, has been classified into eight patterns according to the main character’s social class, existence of the will of accumulating a fortune and the reality of the methodology for accumulating a fortune. The main characters of the works dealt with activity of accumulating a wealth by facing each of their economical problems and by having the different purposes of social classes. And it has been found that the social class of the main character could have influence on the methods and subsequent stories of accumulating a wealth. And we could find the common factors that regardless of social classes, the matter of whether or not the main character has will of accumulating a wealth could determine the personality of the helper and moreover, realistic helper and the main character could exchange the relationship of being a helper and being a help receiver. The significance of this study is to look into the fact that the many literary works with a theme of accumulating a wealth forms individual phases, and has an systematic interrelationship with having both commons and differences according to the main character’s social class, will and method of accumulating a wealth.
