국문 초록

여행기는 기존의 체제와 관습에서 자유로워진 여행자가 시간의 변화를 민감하게 감지하며, 낯선 장소에서 새로운 ‘나’와 만나려는 시도의 기록이다. 우리의 국내 여행기 중 다수를 차지하는 제주 여행기는 제주에 매혹된 여행자들이 수차례 방문과 체류 경험을 바탕으로 독창적인 영역을 구축하고 있다. 제주 여행기는 일반적인 여행기와는 차이가 있다. 일반적인 여행기는 일회적 여행에 기반 해서 쓰기 때문에 장소성이 부각된다. 제주 여행기는 수차례 방문 과정에서 장소에 대한 경험이 입체적인 시간성을 얻는다. 제주 여행기들이 담으려는 감성은 아름다운 풍경이 촉발한 것을 넘어 과거와 현재의 연관 속에서 파생되기 때문에 극대화된다. 제주 여행기에서는 ‘떠남-귀환’이라는 전통 플롯에 따른 서사를 찾아볼 수 있다. 육지 대도시의 폭력적 생존 경쟁을 거부하는 여행자들은 제주를 여행하며 새로운 삶을 모색하고 변화된 자신을 만나려했다. 이들이 만나는 것은 원시 생명력, 아름다움, 평화, 공존, 본래적 자기의 회복이다. 체제에 저항하며 새로운 정체성을 구성하려는 철학적 노마디즘은 한 인간이 여행이라는 시공간의 변화 속에서 자신이 주인공이 되어 유기적인 이야기를 구성하며 구현된다. 장소 체험에서 비롯한 극대화된 감성과 노마디즘 서사는 한 장소에 대한 애정인 ‘장소애(場所愛, topophilia)’의 결과다. 많은 제주 여행기는 장소와의 긴밀한 유대감이 희귀해진 이 시대에 ‘진정한 장소감(場所感)’을 되살려냈다.

영문 초록

Travelog is a record of an attempt to meet a new me in a strange place, sensitive to changes in time by a traveler who is free from the existing system and customs. Jeju travelers who were attracted to Jeju left Jeju travels based on their visits and stay experiences several times. Jeju travelog is different from the general travelog. The placeness of the general travelog is highlighted because the general travelog is based on one-time travel. Jeju Traveler gets three-dimensional time experience in the place during several visits. The emotions that Jeju travellers are trying to contain are maximized because they are derived from past and present associations beyond what beautiful scenery has triggered. In Jeju Travelog, we can find the narrative according to the traditional plot called Leave – Return . Travelers who refused to compete for violent survival in land metropolis traveled to Jeju to seek new lives and meet themselves. What they meet is primitive vitality, beauty, peace, coexistence, and restoration of original self. Philosophical nomadism, which tries to resist the system and form a new identity, is realized by forming an organic story as a person becomes the main character in the time and space change of travel. The maximized sensibility and nomadic narrative from the place experience are the result of place affection (‘topophilia’), which is affection for a place. Many Jeju travelogues revived a real sense of place in this era when close ties with places became rare.
