거창 출신 항일 지사의 역사의식과 문학에 대한 연구

국문 초록

거창 출신의 항일 운동가인 尹忠夏[1855~1925]는 郭鍾錫이 파리장서 운동에 나서도록 설득하였고 을사오적 암살단의 일원으로 체포되어 진도로 유배를 갔다가 해배되자마자 무장 항쟁을 하기 위해 충청도 홍성에 있던 勉庵 崔益鉉[1833~1906]의 의병 군진을 직접 찾아가 최익현으로부터 ‘진정한 영남의 義士’라고 극찬을 받은 인물로 자신의 역사의식을 문학 작품으로 창작하였다. 『擬弔義帝討項籍文』은 일본에 나라를 판 五賊이나 고종을 핍박하여 죽음에 이르게 한 매국 분자들을 비판하기 위해 창작하였을 개연성이 다분하다. 金宗直의 『弔義帝文』이 무오사화의 도화선이 될 정도로 심각한 작품이었듯이 『擬弔義帝討項籍文』 역시 단순히 군신 간의 의리를 강조하는 글에 그치지 않는 현실성을 지닌다. 『擬太公與伯夷書』는 太公이 백이에게 보내는 가상의 편지인데, 민심이 이반되어 멸망한 수밖에 없는 왕조에 절의를 고집하는 맹목적 충성의 무모함을 비판하는 역사의식이 드러나 있다. 윤충하는 경술국치 당시의 심정을 피력한 『無題』나 고종의 서거에 항의하여 자결한 尹鳳儀 의사를 추모하기 위해 쓴 『挽族叔 鳳儀』, 사회적 윤리와 가치가 파괴된 시대상을 비판한 『傷時 七絶 竝引』 등에서 특유의 비판 의식을 드러냈다. 『傷時 七絶 竝引』의 첫 번째 수에서는 기독교의 폐해를, 두 번째 수에서는 祖國思想이 없는 것을 비판하였다. 세 번째 수부터 마지막 일곱 번째 수까지는 五倫과 관련된 내용이다. ‘父子相殘’은 ‘父子有親’에, ‘無君論者’는 ‘君臣有義’에, ‘離婚男女’는 ‘夫婦有別’에 ‘兄弟相爭’은 ‘長幼有序’에, ‘無朋友道’는 ‘朋友有信’에 대응된다. 그러나 종래의 五倫論이 현실적으로 구체화․예각화 되었다는 점에서 큰 차이를 보인다. 윤충하는 고난의 시대를 살아가는 처지와 국권 상실이라는 암울한 시대에 대한 의식을 노래하였다. 그는 자신의 곤궁한 삶을 좋은 문학적 소재로 삼을 수 있다고 여겼으니, 곤궁한 삶의 문학화는 그러한 삶의 가치를 스스로 확신케 하는 일련의 과정으로 작용하였다. 그는 안락한 삶을 버리고 신념을 실천하기 위하여 부단히 노력하였기 때문에 생활이 몹시 곤궁하였지만, 그러한 삶은 스스로 선택한 것이었기에 『窮居戱題』와 같이 농기 어린 문학 작품으로 표현할 여유가 있었다. 그가 삶의 고단함으로 노래한 것 중 하나는 ‘나그네살이’이니, 『思鄕』 등에서 신념의 실천을 위해 고향을 떠나 있지만 고향으로 돌아가고 싶은 간절함을 토로하고 있다. 『華山雜詠』 등에서는 역량을 충분히 발휘할 수 있는 환경을 만나지 못하는 불우한 심경을 노래하였고 『書憤』과 『老儒行』 등에서는 생에 대한 회한과 사회의 부조리에 대한 분노를 표출하고 있다. 한편, 『苦寒』과 『立春』 등에서는 암울한 세상은 반드시 지나가고야 만다는 희망과 틀림없는 자연의 이치처럼 역사의 필연적 이치도 구현될 것이라는 믿음을 표현하였다. 윤충하의 항일 운동과 그의 문학이 갖는 가치는 다음과 같이 정리할 수 있다. 1. 그의 항일 운동은 고립 분산적이거나 소모적이지 않다. 2. 유학자로서는 드물게 무장 투쟁의 신념을 지녔다. 3. 문필을 이용해 투쟁을 하였다. 4. 항일 독립 운동가의 문학 예술적 수준을 보여준다.

영문 초록

Yun Chung-ha(尹忠夏)[1855~1925], an anti-Japanese patriot from Geochang, persuaded Gwak Jong-seok to take part in the Paris Jangseo movement[Presentation of the Long Petition to the Paris Peace Conference]. And he was arrested as a member of the Five Eulsa Traitors assassin and was exiled to Jindo. After, as soon as he was released, he visited the righteous army military camp of Myeonam Choi Ik-hyeon(崔益鉉)[1833~1906] in Hongseong Chungcheong Province in order to engage in armed struggle, so he was praised by Choi Ik-hyun as ‘The true patriot of Yeongnam’. Yun Chung-ha created his historical consciousness as a literary work. 『Uijouijetohangjeokmun(擬弔義帝討項籍文)』 is likely to have been created in order to criticize the Five Traitors who sold their country to Japan and unpatriotic members who persecuted King Gojong to death, which resulted in death. Just as Kim Jong-jik’s 『Jouijemun(弔義帝文)』 was such a serious work that it became the direct cause of Muosahwa, 『Uijouijetohangjeokmun(擬弔義帝討項籍文)』 also has a reality that it is not just an article emphasizing the loyalty between sovereign and subject. 『Uitaegongyeobaekiseo(擬太公與伯夷書)』 is a fictional letter from Taegong to Baek Yi, revealing the historical consciousness of criticizing the recklessness of blind loyalty insisting on the integrity to the dynasty in which the public sentiment alienated and had no choice but to perish. Yun Chung-ha clearly showed his unique criticism in literary works, through the 『Muje(無題)』 which expressed the feelings at the time of being robbed of national sovereignty, 『Manjogsuk bong-ui(挽族叔 鳳儀)』 which was written to commemorate Yun Bong-ui who committed suicide in order to protest against King Gojong’s death and 『Sangsi Chiljeol Byeongin(傷時 七絶 竝引)』 which criticized the times when social ethics and values were destroyed. The first poem of 『Sangsi Chiljeol Byeongin(傷時 七絶 竝引)』criticized the Christian harmful effect and the second poem criticized the absence of the national ideology. From the third poem to the last seven poem, they belong to the category of Five Relationships in Confucianism(五倫). ‘a family quarrel(父子相殘)’ corresponds to ‘the affection between father and child(父子有親)’, ‘the theory of no king(無君論者)’ corresponds to ‘the loyalty between sovereign and subjects(君臣有義)’, ‘divorced men and women(離婚男女)’ corresponds to ‘the distinction between husband and wife(夫婦有別)’, ‘a sibling conflict(兄弟相爭)’ corresponds to ‘the precedence between old and young(長幼有序)’ and ‘no friend’s duty(無朋友道)’ corresponds to ‘the confidence among friends(朋友有信)’. However, there is a big difference in the fact that the conventional theory of Five Relationships in Confucianism(五倫) has become realistically concrete and acute. Yun Chung-ha expressed a consciousness about the dark period of hardship and losing sovereignty. He regarded his poor life as a good literary material, so literaturization of poor life served as a series of processes that convinced worth of such life himself. His life was in very bad condition because he abandoned his comfortable life and he steadily endeavored to practice his convictions. But his poor life was his own choice, thus he could afford to express it with humorous literary works such as 『Gunggeohuije(窮居戱題)』. One of the things he expressed with the hardships of life was the ‘living of wanderer’. In 『Sahyang(思鄕)』, he left his hometown to practice his beliefs, but he expressed his eagerness to return home. In 『Hwasanjabyeong(華山雜詠)』, he expressed unfortunate feelings of not being able to meet the circumstances which he could sufficiently demonstrate his capabilities. In 『Seobun(書憤)』 and 『Noyuhaeng(老儒行)』, he expressed the remorse for life and anger at the irrationality of the society. On the other hand, in his works such as 『Gohan(苦寒)』 and 『Ibchun(立春)』,
