외국인 이주민의 한국 웹드라마 수용 과정에 대한 탐색적 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 베트남 이주민의 한국 웹드라마 수용 과정을 탐색적으로 알아보고 이민자 미디어 수용에 관한 연구의 저변을 확장하고자 한다. 20대와 30대 베트남 이주민을 대상으로 한 심층 인터뷰 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 베트남 이주민이 한국 웹드라마를 시청하는 동기는 내국인과 다르게 한국의 이질적 문화를 이해하고 한국어를 학습하는 언어 학습 및 정보습득 의 이유가 대표적이었다. 그러나 베트남 문화와 이질적인 특성을 가지는 한국 문화임에도 한국 웹드라마는 공감할 만한 소재, 상황, 감정 또한 많이 포함됨으로써 베트남 출신 이주민의 공감을 이끌어냈다. 둘째, 내국인을 대상으로 한 기존 연구와 같이 출연진의 매력과 함께 썸네일과 O.S.T., 자막의 유무가 한국 웹드라마의 시청 여부에 영향을 주었다. 콘텐츠 외적으로는 순차적 편성과 이용의 용이성이 중요한 시청 동기였다. 셋째, 베트남 이주민의 한국 웹드라마를 처음 접하는 경로는 OTT 서비스 또는 준거집단 추천, 그리고 페이스북에서의 우연한 발견 등이었다. 페이스북에서 한국 웹드라마를 처음 접할 경우 첫 회나 예고편 영향만 제공되어 이후의 에피소드는 유튜브로 시청하는 양상이 발견되었다. 마지막으로, 참가자들은 한국 웹드라마에서 결말, 빠른 전개, 내용의 다양성이 개선되면 한국 웹드라마가 더 발전할 수 있다고 언급하였다.

영문 초록

This study sought to explore the process of Vietnamese immigrants watching Korean web dramas and expand the foundation of insufficient immigrant media research. The results of in-depth interviews with 2030 Vietnamese immigrants are as follows. First, the typical motivation for Vietnamese immigrants to watch Korean web dramas was information acquisition of understanding Korea’s disparate culture and learning Korean. However, even though Korean culture is heterogeneous from Vietnamese culture, Korean web dramas have drawn sympathy from Vietnamese immigrants by including many sympathetic materials, situations, and emotions. Second, the presence of thumbnails, O.S.T. and subtitles, along with the charm of the cast, influenced the viewing of Korean web dramas. Outside of the content, sequential provision of the episodes and ease of use were motivations for watching. Third, Vietnamese immigrants first encountered Korean web dramas such as OTT services or recommendations from reference groups, and accidental discoveries on Facebook. When they first encounter Korean web dramas on Facebook, only the first episode or trailer video was provided in most cases, and subsequent episodes were found to be watched on YouTube. Finally, participants mentioned that Korean web dramas could develop further if the ending, rapid development, and lack of content improve in Korean web dramas.
