국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 우리나라의 PISA 2012 과학 평가 결과를 우리나라와 과학 성취 정도가 유사한 일본과 핀란드와 비교해 봄으로써 우리나라 과학교육에 대한 시사점을 얻는 데 있다. OECD PISA 홈페이지에 수록된 PISA 2012 원자료를 사용하여 국가 전체 학생뿐만 아니라 과학 성취 상위 10% 학생 및 과학 성취수준 5수준 이상인 학생을 대상으로 우리나라와 일본, 우리나라와 핀란드 사이의 과학 평가틀의 하위영역별, 그리고 문제유형별 평균 정답률 차이에 대한 t 검증 및 효과크기 비교를 실시하였다. 전체 학생을 대상으로 하였을 때 ‘폐쇄형 구성형’ 문항유형을 제외한 우리나라의 대부분의 하위영역별 또는 문항유형별 평균 정답률이 두 나라에 비해 낮았으며, 특히 ‘개방형 구성형’ 문항유형의 정답률이 크게 낮았다. 더욱이 이러한 차이는 과학 성취수준이 높은 집단에서 심화되었다. 이에 대한 개선을 위해 과학 탐구 능력이나 사고력을 향상시킬 수 있는 교수·학습 및 평가 방법에 대한 노력과 과학 글쓰기와 토론에 관련된 활동을 통한 자신의 생각을 충분히 표현할 수 있도록 하는 교육이 필요함을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to obtain the implications for science education in Korea by comparing the PISA 2012 science assessment results of Korea with those of Japan, and with those of Finland, which are the countries obtained a similar mean to Korea in PISA 2012. With the PISA 2012 raw data on the home page of OECD PISA, I conducted t-test for the average percentage differences of Korea s correct answers of PISA science framework s sub-categories and item types with Japan s, and with Finland s, and compared the effect sizes of the differences targeting the top 10% performers and 5 level or above performers as well as all students in each country. Comparing the average percentages of the sub-categories/item types of the all students of Korea with those of Japan, and with Finland, except for of the item type ‘closed constructed-response , most of the average percentages of Korea were lower than those of the two countries, in particular of the item type ‘open constructed-response . Moreover, these differences were increased for high performers. I proposed the need for the research on teaching and learning or assessment methods to improve the scientific inquiry skills and the thinking, and for the instruction to be fully expressed their thoughts through the activities related to the writing and discussion on science.
