항일ㆍ독립운동가로 부른 학도가류 연구

국문 초록

일제강점기 학도가(學徒歌)는 학도(학생)에게 학문을 권장하거나 신체의 단련과 건강을 독려하거나 부지런하게 살기를 권하는 노래로 널리 불려졌다. 학도가는 하나의 곡명이 아니고 <학도가>ㆍ<권학가>ㆍ<운동가>ㆍ<공부>ㆍ<전진가>ㆍ<행보가> 등 다양한 곡명을 가졌으며 다양한 곡조로 불렀다. 따라서 이러한 노래를 근대에 생겨난 ‘학도가류’라고 통칭할 수 있다. 그동안 음악학계에서는 학도가가 곡조 차용이 많고 그중에서도 일본의 <철도창가> 곡조를 씀으로 해서 학도(학생)들에게 은연중 일본 정서를 강요하게 하였으며 국정음악교과서 틀 내에서 반일적 정서 차단을 위한 노래로 사용되었다는 부정적인 관점을 가지고 있다. 그러나 학도가류는 국정교과서 󰡔보통교육창가집󰡕 수록 이외에는 오히려 김인식, 이상준 등 개인이 만든 창가집에 더 많이 수록되었을 뿐 아니라 민족사립학교에서 사용한 애국창가집에 더 많은 곡이 수록되어 있다. 또한 학도가류는 곡조 차용 곡만 있는 것이 아니라 김인식이 1905년 창작한 <학도가>도 있고 1910년 이전으로 추정하는 안창호 작사, 이성식 작곡의 <학도가>도 있다. 창작된 <학도가>는 항일독립운동 진영에서 적극적으로 교육ㆍ가창되었을 뿐 아니라 그 곡조를 활용하여 노래하여 부름으로써 학도들에게 애국심과 독립심을 불러일으키게 하였다. 따라서 일제강점기 학도가류는 일본노래 차용으로 ‘한국인의 일본 정서 흡수’라는 부정적 기능도 분명히 있으면서도 한편으로는 항일독립운동 진영에서 당시 유행하는 곡조의 적극적 활용을 통해 학생들에게 애국심을 고취시키고 독립운동에 자부심을 심어주는 긍정적 역할이 더욱 컸음을 밝혔다.

영문 초록

Hakdo-ga, a collective term for student s song throughout the Japanese colonial era in Korea, was widely sung. The song encouraged students to study, to accomplish physical discipline, or to live diligently. Hakdo-ga songs embraced various songs in diverse tunes including Hakdoga, a student s song; Kweonhakga, a song for encouraging students to study, Undongga, a song of physical exercise; Gongbuga, a song of study; Jeonjinga, song of moving forward, and Haengboga, a song for walk. Thus, these songs are categorized as so-called Hakdo-ga class songs, which are derived in modern times. It was thought that some Hakdo-ga songs borrowed melodies of other songs, including a Japanese tune Cheoldo changga. For this reason, it has been negatively recognized that the students may have been forced into Japanese sentiments secretly, and that it was used as a song to curb anti-Japanese sentiments within the framework of Botonggyoyuk changgajip (state-run music textbook collection). In fact, Hakdo-ga songs are contained more in individual publications (e.g., books by Kim In-sik and Lee Sang-jun), other than the state-run textbook collection. Furthermore, the songs of Hakdo-ga class are included more in the national anthem collection, used in the National Private Schools. Some Hakdo-ga songs adopted melodies of existing tunes from other song, but some Hakdo-ga songs were newly created. They are Hakdo-ga songs, composed by Kim In-sik in 1905, and by Ahn Chang-ho and Lee Sung-sik before 1910. These songs were actively sung in the anti-Japanese independence movements, inspiring Korean students to poster patriotism and spirit of independence by singing various lyrics to this tune. Based on above facts, this paper discloses that the Hakdo-ga class songs in Japanese colonial era played immensely positive role in promoting patriotism and inspiring pride in the independence movement, through active use of the popular tune at that time, despite the negative bearing of borrowing Japanese tunes.
