국문 초록

한국의 기독교교육이 개인(복음화 → 제자화)에 초점을 둔 교육에 머물렀다면, 이제는 ‘신앙 공동체’에 초점을 둔 하나님 나라의 문화 형성(문화화 → 역사화)에로 교육적인 관심을 한 단계 끌어 올려야 할 때이다. 공동체 문화 형성을 위한 기독교교육의 첫 번째 과제는 무엇보다 먼저 평신도(laity) 참여를 통한 교회의 ‘회중’(congregation) 형성이다. 두 번째 과제는 교회학교의 ‘공동체성’ 회복이다. 교회학교가 교회 내 부설기관이기 이전에 ‘교회 안의 작은 교회들’, ‘공동체’(예컨대, 어린이교회, 청소년교회 등)라는 인식의 전환이 요청된다. 세 번째 과제는 기독교 가정 공동체의 ‘정체성(identity)’ 회복이다. 우리는 역사적으로 선민(chosen people) 이스라엘 가정의 부모들을 향한 하나님의 교육 명령인 ‘쉐마’(shema, 신 6:4-9)에서 그 원리를 찾아야 한다. 네 번째 과제는 ‘사회적 약자’를 향한 공감과 소통의 공동체 형성이다. 우리의 ‘이웃’인 지역 사회의 작은이들(가난한 자, 성장 세대, 장애인, 다문화 가족, 새터민[탈북민] 등)에 대한 교육적 관심과 돌봄을 지원하는 공동체 형성 과제는 한국교회의 정체성을 회복하는 지름길이 될 수 있다. 마지막으로 21세기 하나님 나라의 구현을 위한 한국 기독교의 교육 실천의 방향은 어떤 형태로든 그 기본 방향이 에큐메니칼 한 것이어야 한다. 우리가 추구하는 에큐메니칼 정신(ecumenical spirit)은 서로 다른 이들을 ‘위한’ 공동체적 관심 못지않게 다른 이들과 ‘함께’ 소통하는 공동체 형성을 지향한다.

영문 초록

This paper is based on a keynote speech presented at the 2014 Fall Conference of the Korean Society for the Study of Christian Religious Education. Empathy and communication are universal languages that reveal community attributes, and are bound to dissipate if a commun-ity collapses. If humans are raised in an empathetic and communica-tive community, education occurs within the communal context. So when discussing education for empathy and communication, com- munity formation is a basic requisite. Christian education in Korea has remained focused on the level of the individual(Evangelism → Discipleship), but it is now time to upgrade our educational interests to focus on the faith community and its cultural formation in the global context (Faith-enculturation → Historicization). Above all, the first task for this would involve establishing a church ‘congregation’ with participation of the laity. The second task would be to restore a sense of ‘community’ among church schools. This would require a change of perception to recognize that church schools are first and foremost a community of ecclesiolae in ecclesia or ‘small churches within the church’(e.g., children’s church), rather than mere auxiliaries of the church. The third task would be to recover or renew ‘Christian iden-tity’ of the family community. The fourth task would be to build com- munity that empathizes and communicates with the ‘socially dis- advantaged’(those in poverty, the physically disabled, multicultural families, new settlers of North Korean, etc.) as our local ‘neighbors’. Finally, whatever form Christian educational practices in Korea take on in the 21st century for the realization of God’s kingdom, their basic traits and direction must be ‘ecumenical’. The ecumenical spirit we value and follow would guide us to build a community that aims to foster not only collective concern ‘for’ other people, but also active communication ‘with’ them.
