누리과정의 교육철학에 대한 기독교적 조명

국문 초록

본 논문은 유아교육과 보육의 통합을 위해 2011년에 제정된 누리과정을 분석하여 기독교인 교사들의 누리과정의 철학에 대한 인식을 돕고 유아를 위한 기독교 교육적 문제제기를 위한 기초를 마련하여 어떠한 자세로 누리과정을 운영해야 하는지에 대한 시사점과 방향을 제공하는 것이 목적이다. 누리과정을 분석하는 이유는 첫째, 누리과정의 보급이 기독교유아교육 실행에 부정적으로 지대한 영향을 주기 때문이다. 둘째, 거의 대부분의 유아교육기관에서 누리과정을 아무런 저항 없이 실시하고 있는 이유는 교육은 중립이라고 하는 의식이 보편적으로 교사들의 인식 속에 뿌리박혀 있기 때문이다. 이러한 이유로 누리과정을 분석하기 위해 누리과정의 모체가 되는 유치원 교육과정의 철학을 1차부터 6차, 그리고 2007 유치원 교육과정 개정까지의 변천과정을 역사적으로 고찰하였다. 그 결과 누리과정은 듀이의 인본주의가 교육철학의 핵심에 자리 잡고 있음을 발견하였다. 따라서 인본주의 철학이 주장하는 대로 과연 누리과정은 전인교육을 강조하는지, 인간론과 신론, 인식론과 가치론에서는 어떠한 입장을 취하고 있는지에 대해 기독교적인 고찰을 하였다. 인본주의 입장에서 교육은 전인교육이라고 하지만 영적인 부분을 누락시킴으로서 전인교육이 되기에는 한계를 가지고 있고, 기독교교육이 인간은 하나님에 의해 창조된 피조물임을 주장하고 초월자이신 하나님을 인정하며 하나님 중심의 교육인데 반해나 듀이의 철학에서 인간은 진화론에 의해 만들어진 존재이며 초월자를 부인하며 인간이 그 중심에 자리 잡고 있다. 또한 인식론과 가치론에 있어서도 기독교의 그것과는 매우 다른 입장을 취하고 있다.

영문 초록

This paper analyzes the Nuri curriculum, a curriculum established in 2011 with an aim to integrate early childhood education and child-care, in order to enhance Christian educators’ understanding of the philosophy behind the Nuri curriculum and to give them guidance as to how they should implement the curriculum by providing a foundation that can be used to raise issues from a Christian education perspective. The rationale behind this paper’s analysis of the Nuri curriculum is as follows: (a) the introduction of the curriculum has immense negative ramifications for Christian early childhood education and (b) most early childhood education institutions implement the Nuri curriculum because educators commonly believe that education should keep a religiously neutral stance. Thus, the chronology of the development of kindergarten curricula’s philosophy, the mother of Nuri curriculum, including the first to the sixth kindergarten curricula as well as the 2007 curriculum reform was studied. As a result, it is founded that Dewey’s theory based on humanist naturalism was at the nexus of the educational philosophy of the Nuri curriculum. Specifically, it is performed a careful examination from a Christian perspective on whether the Nuri curriculum emphasizes holistic education as insisted by humanistic naturalism and what position the curriculum takes on anthropology and theism, as well as epistemology and axiology. Although from a humanistic naturalism standpoint the Nuri curriculum may be considered holistic, but since it lacks a spiritual aspect it cannot be deemed as truly holistic. Furthermore, while Christian education acknowledges that mankind is a creation of God and that He should be at the very core of education, Dewey argues that mankind is a creature of evolution and denies the existence of God putting mankind at the center of education. In addition, Dewey’s stance on epistemology and axiology is in direct conflict with that of Christianity.
