전 동명왕릉과 진파리고분군의 성격검토

국문 초록

전 동명왕릉은 기단봉토석실벽화분으로서, 4, 5세기대 고구려 고분에서 보이는 모든 요소들이 망라되어있다. 전면에는 정릉사라는 능사가, 배후에는 대형분들로 구성된 진파리 고분군이 있어서, 전 동명왕릉은 고구려 고분에서는 유일한 예라고 할 수 있다. 이에 본 글에서는 전 동명왕릉과 진파리 고분군 무덤의 조성시기를 비정하고, 이를 종합하여 전 동명왕릉과 진파리 고분군의 성격을 살폈다. 그 결과, 전 동명왕릉은 5세기 전반으로, 배후의 진파리 고분군은 6세기 전반경으로 연대비정되었다. 진파리 고분군 중 전 동명왕릉 배후에 있는 진파리 4, 5, 6호분은 전 동명왕릉의 배장묘일 가능성이 크며, 전면에 있는 정릉사는 진파리 고분군과 비슷한 시기에 조성된 능사였을 것이다. 능사는 전 동명왕릉을 전, 후한 시기의 왕릉급 무덤에서 관찰되지 않는다. 이는 고구려에서는 유일한 예로 전 동명왕릉은 특정 왕의 실묘라기보다논 평양 천도를 즈음하여 조성된 정치적 권위의 산물인 동시에 정신적 구심점 역할을 하는 상징물일 것으로 판단하였다. 전 동명왕릉과 정릉사를 축조하게 된 것은 평양으로 천도가 계기가 되었을 것이다. 고구려 고유의 묘제인 적석총은 피장자의 사회적 지위가 분형과 규모에 반영된 무덤으로 왕릉과 왕릉급 초대형석실적석총이 도성 주변에 자리하면서 왕권의 상징으로서 다종족으로 구성된 고구려 주민의 정신적 통합물로서 기능을 하였음을 고려해 볼 때, 적석총과는 다른 묘제 전통을 가진 평양으로 천도하면서 고구려에서는 병합된 평양일대 주민를을 정신적으로 통합할 기념물을 필요로 하였을 것이다. 그러한 배경에서 전 동명왕릉과 배후의 배장묘, 정릉사는 왕의 권위와 주민을 통합하는 정신적 구심점으로 기능하였을 것이다.

영문 초록

The royal tomb naming Dongmyeoung is a sole example which has the depending temple called Jungrung Temple and the three attached tombs at the backyard among the Koguryo Royal Tombs. Therefore the royal tomb naming Dongmyeong is the important to restore the original state of Koguryo Royal Tomb. This paper aims to reveal the identity of the royal tomb naming Dongmyeong and the tombs of Pyeongyang Jinpari.On the point of building the royal tomb, the date of royal tomb naming Dongmyeong which is the mural painting chambered tomb with the earthen mound holding up the stone stereobate, is inferred at the first half of 5th century A.D. It suggests that the royal tomb naming Dongmyeong is the monumentality in Koguryo in relation to transfer the Capital from Jian to Pyeongyang. The traditional type of Koguryo tomb is the stone mound tomb which show up the status of tomb s owner. So, the royal tomb with stone mound shows up the royal authority and plays monumentality role in Koguryo which organized with several ethnic groups. Transferring the Capital from Jian to Pyeongyang, the traditional type of Koguryo tomb changes into the mural painting chambered tomb with earthen mound. It infer that the royal tomb naming Dongmyeong which combined the stone mound tomb with the mural painting chamber and earthen mound, shows up the royal authority and plays monumentality role in new Capital Pyeongyang instead of the stone mound tomb.
