중·고등교사의 교직선택 요인이 교직노력 및 교직만족도에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구는 FIT-Choice(Factors Influencing Teaching-Choice) 모델에 기반하여 현직 중·고등 교사들이 교직을 지속적으로 선택하는 요인을 살펴본 후, 다중회귀분석을 통해 교직선택 요인의 다양한 하위요소가 교사의 교직노력 및 교직만족도를 어떻게 예측하는지 살펴보고자 하였다. 112명의 중·고등 교사의 설문응답을 분석한 결과, 교수능력, 내재가치, 학습자미래설계, 직업안정성 등의 요소가 교사들이 교직을 지속하게 하는 중요한 동기요소로 나타났다. 또한 교사들은 교직이 주는 보상적인 측면보다 업무부담, 전문성과 같이 교직에서 요구되는 측면을 더욱 크게 인식하고 있었다. 한편, 교직노력과 교직만족도를 예측하는 요인은 서로 다르게 나타났다. 자신의 교수능력이 높다고 느끼고 교직에 전문성이 필요하다고 인식할수록, 또한 주변의 권유에 의해 교직을 선택한 경향이 낮을수록 교사들은 교직에 더욱 노력을 기울이고자 하였다. 또한 교직에 대한 내재가치가 높고 교직이 대안적 진로가 아닐수록 교직에 대한 만족도는 높아졌다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 교직노력과 교직만족도에 대한 교직선택 요인이 가지는 함의점을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

Based on the FIT-Choice (Factors Influencing Teaching-Choice) model, this study examined various factors that make in-service teachers continue to remain in their teaching profession, and then to examine how these factors predict teachers planned effort and satisfaction in their job. Responses of 112 middle and high school teachers revealed that teaching ability, intrinsic value, shaping the future of the children, and job stability were listed highly in rank as reasons for continuing teaching. In addition, teachers were more in tuned to the aspects required in the teaching profession, such as the burden of work and expertise, than the rewarding aspects of it. Meanwhile, the factors predicting planned effort and satisfaction with teaching were different from each other. The more middle and high school teachers felt that their teaching ability was high and expertise required in teaching, and the less tendency to choose teaching based on the recommendations of their significant others, the more the teachers plan to exert their efforts in teaching. In addition, the higher the intrinsic value of teaching and the less the teaching was an alternative career, the higher the satisfaction with the teaching. Based on these results, we discussed implications of factors influencing teaching as a career choice for middle and high school teachers.
