영문 초록

This paper argues that for-to has not only a syntactic function but also meaning of its own which conditions its behavior. For assigns the subject for a landmark for use, whereas to signifies the notion of path-goal. The for-to complement clause denotes a situation that is not tied to a specific time or a specific occurrence. For-to was shown to encode a greater degree of distance between the referents of the main and complement subjects. The two referents are in indirect contact, and so the main subject appears to be less involved in the realization of the complement clause. For-to was also shown to denote potentiality in the sense that the complement clause takes place at a time future to the time of the main clause.
