국문 초록

연구목적: 네팔 정부는 오랫동안 교육, 보건 및 고용 분야에서 장애학생들에게 공평한 권리, 접근 및 기회를 제공하려고 노력해 왔으나 그와 같은 시도들은 오늘날까지 효과적이지 못할 뿐만 아니라 별다른 성과를 내지 못하고 있다. 이 연구는 현재 네팔의 상황에서 지체장애 학생의 교육 실태를 분석하는데 그 목적이 있다. 연구방법: 연구 목적을 달성하기 위하여 해석적 패러다임에 기초한 질적 연구 설계를 하였으며, 연구 대상은 카트만두 시내에 있는 2개 통합학교와 2개 특수학교에서 교장 4명과 교사 8명을 이 연구의 목적에 따라 의도적으로 표집하였다. 자료 수집은 이들을 대상으로 심층적 면담을 통해 이루어졌다. 연구결과: 지체장애 학생들은 대부분 통합학교에서 일반학생들과 함께 공부하고 있으나 그들의 독특한 요구에 적합한 교육과정 서비스를 받지 못하고 있다. 아울러, 친장애 환경의 부족, 다양성 관리 소홀, 보조공학 기기 사용의 미흡, 전환교육 부재 등으로 지체장애 학생들의 학습 성취에 역효과를 미치고 있다. 결론: 따라서 이 연구는 지체장애 학생들의 적절한 교육권을 보장해 주기 위해 국가 차원에서 이러한 문제들을 개선하기 위한 정책적 접근이 요구되고 있음을 시사하고 있다.

영문 초록

Purpose: The government of Nepal has been striving to provide equal rights, access and opportunities to the disabled students in education, health, and employment sector for a long time. However, such attempts have not been effective, sufficient, and suitable until the date. In this regard, the main purpose of this study was to analyze the current learning reality of students with physical disabilities especially in Nepalese context. Method: The study was based on interpretative paradigm followed by qualitative research design. Both head-teachers and teachers (four head-teachers and eight teachers) were selected, as core respondents of the study from four schools (two integrated and two special schools) by using purposive sampling method. In-depth interview and document analysis were used as prominent tools for data collection, which was an open and exploratory in nature. Results: The results of the study indicated that students with physical disabilities did not have proper access to curriculum, most of the students are taught in integrated school with normal students, and classroom instruction was not suitable and effective. In addition, lack of disabled friendly environment, negligence in diversity management, low use of assistive technology and lack of transition planning, which adversely affected physically disabled student’s learning achievement. Conclusion: Therefore, this study offers proper policy provision to ensure the educational rights of the students with physical disabilities by solving these problems.
