브릿지 스쿨(Bridge School) 초등학급의 보완·대체 의사소통 중재 현황에 대한 질적 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 보완·대체 의사소통 체계 적용으로 특화된 미국 캘리포니아 힐스버로우시에 위치한 지체장애 특수학교인 브릿지 스쿨의 초등학급에서 보완·대체 의사소통 체계 적용이 어떻게 이루어지고 있는지에 대해 질적 연구를 수행한 것이다. 본 연구를 위해 연구자는 1년간 브릿지 스쿨에서 관찰자와 보조교사로 직접 학교 활동에 참여하면서 관찰한 내용과 교사 면담자료, 보완·대체 의사소통 중재 관련 자료 등의 분석을 수행하였다. 연구 결과 브릿지 스쿨의 초등학급에서는 첫째, 보완·대체 의사소통 체계를 모든 교과 수업시간에 중도·중복장애 학생들에게 다양한 방법으로 활용하고 있었다. 둘째, 보완·대체 의사소통 체계 중재는 다중양식체계와 No-Tech 도구에서 High-Tech 도구에 이르는 다양한 AAC 도구와 선택 기법을 활용하고 있었다. 셋째, 보완·대체 의사소통 체계는 단지 의사소통 기능 향상만이 아닌 방향정위나 음악활동, 또래와 가정과의 정보교환 등 다양한 목적으로 활용되고 있었다.

영문 초록

This study is to analyze Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) intervention at the elementary class of Bridge School by qualitative study. Bridge school is a famous special school using assistive technology and AAC for the students with severe and multiple disabilities. This research was performed through participation observation for one year. Conclusion based on those results are as follows. First, at the elementary class of Bridge School, AAC was used for students with severe and multiple disabilities on all of subject classes. This trend provides the chance to rethink on the role of special education teacher and the possibilities of the subject class for students with severe and multiple disabilities. Second, multi-model communication through various AAC aids including unaided AAC, No-Tech, Low-Tech and High-Tech AAC and various scanning and vocabularies display strategies were used for AAC intervention at the elementary class of Bridge SchoolThird, in the elementary class of Bridge School, AAC intervention was used for communicative function enhancement as well as self-determination of students with severe and multiple disabilities. AAC was used for sharing news among peers and information exchange between school and home, also.
