<완월회맹연>의 폭력적 가부장에 대한 비판적 시선의 형상화 방식

국문 초록

본 논문에서는 폭력적 가부장에 대한 미메시스적 차원의 분석을 넘어서 이에 관한 비판적 시선의 형상화 방식을 고찰함으로써, <완월회맹연>의 여성주의의 본질에 조금 더 가까이 다가가고자 하였다. <완월회맹연>에서는 폭력적 가부장을 비판하기 위한 서사전략을 치밀하게 구사하고 있는데, 이를 크게 1) 폭력적 가부장간의 상호 비판, 2) 가족간 공론화장을 통한 비판과 놀리기, 3) 소인형 가부장과의 비교 논리의 세 차원으로 나누어 살펴보았다. 1) 폭력적 가부장간에 서로를 비판하는 독특한 방식을 통해 자신에게 매몰되어 있을 때는 성찰하지 못했던 폭력성을 타인을 거울삼아 성찰하게 함으로써 남성의 자기비판을 보여주고, 2) 희담꾼들을 대거 등장시키는 가운데 현실에서는 쉽지 않았을 가족간의 공론화장을 극대화함으로써 폭력적 가부장에 대한 비판과 조롱을 전경화하며, 3) 소인형 가부장과의 비교 구도 속에서 폭력적 가부장이 등가적 위치 혹은 열등한 위치에 놓일 수도 있다는 논리를 마련함으로써 폭력적 가부장에 대한 근원적 혐오감을 드러내고 있었다. 이러한 서사전략을 통해 <완월회맹연>은 그 어느 작품보다도 폭력적 가부장에 대한 비판적 시선을 강도 높게 노정하고 있었다. <완월회맹연>에서 폭력적 가부장에 대한 이와 같은 강도 높은 비판을 다채롭게 형상화한 것은 결국 ‘여성적 글쓰기’의 한 전략이라고 볼 수 있다. 남성이 남성을 되비추는 거울을 통해 ‘결핍된 여성’이 아니라 ‘결핍된 남성’의 모습을 선명하게 드러내며, 여성들의 의식과 경험이 가득 담긴 ‘수다의 장’을 통해 여성의 입장을 한껏 반영하면서 남성들과의 공유의 장까지 마련하는 한편, 당대의 ‘헤게모니적 남성성’의 폭력성을 ‘주변화된 남성성’과의 비교를 통해 가시화하고 있다. 요컨대, <완월회맹연>은 폭력적 가부장에 대한 비판적 시선의 섬세한 형상화를 통해 폭력적 가부장에 대한 당대 체제 안에서의 비판의 최대치를 선보이는 가운데, 대하소설 특유의 여성적 글쓰기를 심화시키고 있는 작품으로서의 의의를 지닌다.

영문 초록

In this paper, I tried to get a little closer to the essence of the feminism of the Wanwolhoemaengyeon(玩月會盟宴) by considering the formative method of critical gaze beyond the Mimesis-level analysis of violent patriarchs. Wanwolhoemaengyeon(玩月會盟宴) carefully shows an epic strategy to criticize violent patriarchs, which was divided into three dimensions: 1) mutual criticism among violent patriarchs, 2) criticism and teasing through family public public sphere, and 3) comparative logic with stupid patriarchs. 1) Through a unique way of criticizing each other among violent patriarchs, it shows the self-criticism of men by making others reflect on the violence that they could not reflect on when they were buried in themselves. 2) Amid the emergence of a large number of pleasantry-tellers, it maximizes public sphere among family members, which would not have been easy in reality, to foreground criticism and ridicule of violent patriarchs. 3) By comparing stupid patriarch and violent patriarchs, it reveals a fundamental dislike of violent patriarchs. Through this narrative strategy, Wanwolhoemaengyeon(玩月會盟宴) was more critical of the violent patriarch than any other work. It is a strategy of feminine writing that variously embodies such intense criticism of violent patriarchs in Wanwolhoemaengyeon(玩月會盟宴). Men clearly reveal the appearance of a deficient man rather than a deficient woman through a mirror reflecting men, and sharing with men, reflecting women s position to the fullest through a chatter field full of women s consciousness and experience. the violence of the hegemonic masculinity of the time is visualized through comparison with the marginalized masculinity. As such, Wanwolhoemaengyeon(玩月會盟宴) is significant as a work that deepens the unique feminine writing of the roman-fleuve, showing the maximum level of criticism of violent patriarchs in the contemporary system through a delicate form of criticism of violent patriarchs.
