국문 초록

소재 노수신이 평한 포은 시의 품격, 호일(豪逸)･아건(雅健)･웅심(雄深)･화후(和厚)는 포은 시를 대표하는 품격이라 할 수 있다. 이 네 가지 품격은 사실상 포은 시의 특징적인 면모를 망라한 것이다. 호일은 호방･표일의 의미를 함축하고 있는 용어이다. ‘호방’은 포은 시가 보여주는 대표적인 품격으로, 포은의 일생에서 원정･사행･등고와 밀접한 관계가 있다. ‘표일’은 신선세계에서 노닐 듯 고상하고 아름다우며 한가롭고 오묘한 의경을 드러내는 품격이다. 포은은 험난한 사행의 여정 속에서도 종종 속세를 벗어난 듯한 표일의 경지를 시로써 그려내고 있다. 아건은 전아･경건의 의미를 함축하고 있는 용어이다. ‘전아’는 고고한 선비의 풍류가 담겨 있으며, 시의 주제가 유가 경전의 사상을 따르는 작품에서 나타나는 품격이다. 포은은 홀로 있는 시간 중에, 또는 주변 인물과의 교유를 통해 유자적인 시적 취향을 드러내는 저작들을 남겼다. ‘경건’은 내면에 축적된 도가 실하고 강하여, 그 높고 웅장한 모습이 외면에 드러난 시의 품격이다. 포은은 그의 사행시에서 자칭 ‘서생’이라고 하면서도 웅위한 포부와 강건한 의지를 여과 없이 보여준다. 웅심은 ‘웅혼’과 ‘정심’의 의미를 함축하고 있다. 포은은 간혹 ‘서생의 호기’를 넘어서서 무인의 강한 이미지를 드러내며, 그런 삶을 희구하는 웅혼한 품격의 시를 지었다. ‘정심’은 정련된 언어, 엄정한 시격, 심오한 의미를 지닌 시의 품격이다. 『동문선』에도 수록되어 있는 포은의 영사시(詠史詩)에 주로 ‘정심’의 품격이 드러난다. 또한 고금의 역사를 회고하며 인간세상의 불변하는 진리를 논하고 있다는 측면에서도 ‘웅심’하다고 평할 수 있겠다. 화후는 ‘화평’과 ‘혼후’의 의미를 함축하고 있다. ‘화후’는 우환에 처해서도 의리와 천명에 순응하여, 원망하고 슬퍼하더라도 극단으로 치닫거나 도리에 어긋나는 상황까지는 가지 않는 시의를 내포한 품격이다. 포은의 경우 언양 유배기의 작품들이 여기에 해당된다. 의리를 실현하고자 하는 의지와 천명에 대한 믿음이 있었기에 유배지에서도 이처럼 화후한 시를 쓸 수 있었던 것이라 짐작된다.

영문 초록

Roh, Su-shin(Sojae) classified Jeong, Mong-ju(Poeun)’s poems into four styles: Hoil(豪逸), Ahgeon(雅健), Woongsim(雄深), Hwahoo(和厚). These poetical styles represent characteristics of Poeun’s poems. Hoil signifies two styles: Hobang(豪放) and Pyoil(飄逸). Hobang is the typical style of Poeun’s poetry. It is closely related to his expedition, trip as an envoy, and going up to a tower. Pyoil is the poetical style which shows noble, beautiful, leisurely and tranquil feelings. Poeun often wrote poems of Pyoil while continuing the arduous journey as an envoy, as if he was a legendary hermit living in the mountains. Ahgeon signifies two styles: Jeonah(典雅) and Kyeonggun(勁健). Jeonah is the typical style of a noble scholar, especially appeared in poems which express Confusion ideas. Poeun wrote these poems when he was alone or kept company with his friends. Kyeonggun is the poetical style which shows strong, empyreal and magnificent mind. Poeun was a self-styled pallid reader, but he wrote poems which showed his great ambition and strong will when he had a trip as an envoy in China and Japan. Woongsim signifies two styles: Woonghon(雄渾) and Jeongsim(精深). Poeun sometimes wrote poems of Woonghon style which showed disposition of a military man beyond a sturdy spirit. The Jeongsim style includes sophisticated words, strict form, and significant meaning. Poeun’s historical poems mainly show the Jeongsim style. These poems are also recorded in Dongmoonsun(東文選), the book of poetry collection edited by Seo, Geo-jeong. He recollected the histories of all ages and countries and told about eternal truths of the world in his historical poems, so it can be said that these poems are based on the Woongsim style. Hwahoo signifies two styles: Hwapyeong(和平) and Honhoo(渾厚). Poeun’s poems of the Hwahoo style show his belief in God’s will and self-control of emotions. His poem composed in Eonyang(彦陽) was related to the Hwahoo style. He had a sense of duty or justice, and belief in God’s will. So he could write poems of this style when he was exiled to Eonyang(Ulsan).
