국문 초록

본 논문은 제국주의 시기, 한반도 철도를 둘러싼 정치동학이 일본 대외정책의 근간인 아시아주의와 어떤 연관성을 가지고 있으며, 그것이 한반도의 식민지화와 동북아 국제관계에 어떤 영향을 미친 것인지를 분석하고 있다. 열강 간 세력 다툼 속에서 후발 제국주의 국가로 진입한 일본은 아시아주의를 대외정책의 근간으로 설정하고, 이러한 목적 실현을 위한 일환으로 한반도의 식민지화를 최우선적 과제로 추진한다. 일본 제국주의는 한반도를 대륙 침략을 위한 병참기지로 간주하고, 간교한 술책과 강압을 통해 조선 정부로부터 경부철도와 경의철도의 부설권을 획득하고 단기간에 공사를 마무리한다. 한반도 철도를 완성한 후 일본 제국주의는 불법적으로 조선을 병합함으로써 대륙 침략을 위한 첫 번째 관문을 확보하게 된다. 일제 식민지로의 조선의 전락은 동북아 지역에 배타적 세력권을 구축하겠다는 아시아주의의전초기지가 형성되는 동시에 동북아 전역을 전쟁의 소용돌이로 빠뜨리는 혼돈의 시발점이 된다. 이처럼 동북아 세력변화 중심에는 한반도 철도가 있다.

영문 초록

This paper analyzes how the railroads installed on the Korean peninsula during the imperialist period had relations with Asianism, the basis of Japanese foreign policy, and how the railroads influenced Japan’s colonization of Joseon and international relations in Northeast Asia. Japan, a latecomer in the struggle between imperialist powers, set Asianism as the basis for foreign policy and first promoted Joseon’s colonization. Japanese imperialism regarded the Korean Peninsula as a logistical base for the continent invasion and obtained the right to install the Gyeongbu Railway and Gyeongui Railway from the Joseon government through subtle tactics and coercion. As a result, Japan was able to complete these railway works in a short period. After completing the trans-peninsular railroad in Korea, Japan illegally annexed Joseon, passing the first gateway to invade the continent. As a result, the collapse of Joseon into Japanese colonial rule means that the international order in Northeast Asia centered on Japan was formed. At the same time, Joseon’s fall became the starting point of the chaos that plunges entire Northeast Asia into a vortex of war. As such, the Korean peninsula railroad was at the center of the transformation of power relations in East Asia. Japanese imperialism gained political and military superiority while securing economic benefits through the railroad.
