국문 초록

영화제는 이제 축제의 주요 아이템으로 자리했다. 세계는 영화를 중심으로 서로의 문화를 이해한다. 영화제는 그것을 연결시켜주는 하나의 수단이며 매개이다. 우리는 음악이나 공연, 축제를 통해서 서로 다른 지역의 문화를 이해한다. 세계는 축제를 통하여 서로의 차이를 극복하고 문화를 공유하게 된다. 그중에서도 영화는 가장 광범위하게 확산된 예술장르이다. 우리는 영화를 통하여 서로간의 문화를 가장 깊숙이 이해하게 된다. 영화라는 콘텐츠는 세계를 하나로 만들어주며 수많은 영화제를 탄생시켰다. 영화제는 상영되는 영화로 평가되고 차별화된다. 그러므로 영화콘텐츠 분석은 영화제라는 축제를 다양하게 분석할 수 있는 요소라고 할 수 있다. 한국의 영화제는 대종상영화제, 부산국제영화제, 충무로국제영화제 등이 대표적이다. 이러한 영화제들은 방만한 규모에 비해 큰 성과를 내지는 못하고 있다. 외화내빈으로 규모는 커졌지만 관객수는 오히려 줄어든 현상으로 외형의 성장과 달리 관객 동원 면에 있어서 부진을 면치 못하고 있다는 문제점들을 안고 있다. 우리는 여기서 콘텐츠의 차별성보다도 우선하여 영화제의 규모와 예산 등을 따져 효율성 있는 운영을 해야 할 필요성을 느낀다. 그것은 콘텐츠 선정과도 관련이 있다. 비교적 저예산 영화제로 시작하여 자리 잡은 EIDF1)라는 축제는 한국에서 최초로 시도된 다큐멘터리영화제이다. EBS다큐영화제는 2009년 6회를 맞이했고 그동안의 출품작의 완성도나 내실있는 운영으로 큰 성과를 이어오고 있다. 따라서 과거 상영작 다큐멘터리를 정리해보면 EIDF가 앞으로 어떻게 자리 잡을 것인가를 알 수 있다. 상대적으로 극영화들의 영화제를 살펴보면 EIDF의 다큐멘터리 콘텐츠는 극영화 콘텐츠에 비하여 대중적 중심축에선 벗어나 있지만 얼마든지 대중과 함께 할 수 있다는 것을 보여준 축제이다. 본 논문은 EIDF의 현황과 문제점, 콘텐츠 변천사례, 출품작 경향, 수상작 등을 통해 EIDF가 앞으로 어떻게 자리 잡을 것인가를 전망해 본다.

영문 초록

Film festivals are now considered of as one of important form of festivities. With the movies, the world can appreciate one another s culture. And film festivals can provide fora for such. Music, performances and festivals provide us opportunities to understand a different culture. The world can deal with the differences and share one another s culture through festivals. And the movie is the most extensively appreciated art genre of all, that can reflect one s culture. A film festival is differing and evaluated upon its composition of films. So an analysis on the film contents can be one way to consider film festivals. Korea hold international film festivals such as Dae-Jong, Busan, Chungmuro, and so forth. Considering the scale of those film festivals, their performances are not very fruitful. The scale apparently has grown with invitation of foreign film figures, yet the size of audience grew less. Now we claim the importance of efficient management of film festivals with its appropriate size and budget. This also involve proper selection of contents. EIDF is the first documentary film festival in Korea that started on relatively low budget. In 2009 EIDF held in its sixth year. EIDF has been achieving outstanding performance with its quality of films, as well as its effectful management. By consideration to previous documentary contents of EIDF, we will be able to prospect its future direction. Comparing with other film festivals that screen film dramas, EIDF, which has been already carried on its 14th, has been consisted of films that are relatively less popular from a public attention s stand point. Still it has proved that those contents can be appreciated by general public. On this thesis, it seeks the way how EIDF establishes itself through looking at current situations, drawbacks, examples of the contents changed, tendencies of entries, and prize winning movies.
