국문 초록

이 글은 이병주의 『관부연락선』에 반영된 학병세대의 문제적 경험 조건들을 규명해봄으로써 거기에 투사된 실존적 내면의식이 정치적 맥락과 시간의 흐름에 따라 어떤 방식으로 구축되어갔으며,또 그것이 이병주의 문학적 글쓰기에 어떤 성격과 의미를 부여했는지에 대해 살펴본 것이다.이병주의 페르소나라고 할 수 있는 유태림이갖춘 교양주의와 학력 자본의 아비투스는 학병세대의 의식과 행동을 결정짓는 원초적 경험 조건이었다고 말할 수 있다.‘불안사조’와 ‘위기의 철학’이 부상하고 있는 가운데 미키 기요시와 고바야시 히데오에 대한 비교론은 학병세대의 정신적 기반과 소양의 수준을 잘 대변해주는 장면이다.‘일제의 용병’이었다는 노예사상과 해방 이후주인 되기에 대한 번민 속에서 유태림이 선택한 방식은 정직한 자기 응시를 통한 정면 돌파였는데,이는 학병 지원이 순전히 자기 의사에 따른 것이었다는 위악적인 자기 고백을 통해 엿볼 수 있다.이런 태도는 어떤 방식으로든 대일협력을 거부했었다는 사실을 지속적으로 강조해간 학병세대의 집단기억을 전복하는 장면에 해당한다. 즉 정치적인 연유로 행방불명되어버린 유태림에 대한 애도행위를 생략해버림으로써그에 대한 신화화를 철저히 부정하고자 했던 이병주의 주인과 노예의 변증법,이것이바로 작가 이병주의 글쓰기가 우리에게 남긴 유산인 동시에 『관부연락선』이 갖고 있는 중요한 가치라고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

By tracing the problematic conditions of experience of the student-soldier generation shown in Lee Byung-ju’s novel Kanfu Train Ferry, this paper examines how their existential inner consciousness was built along with the political context and the passage of time, and what character it gave to Lee Byung-ju’s literary writing. The culturalism and the habitus of educational capital, which are equipped with Yoo Tae-rim (Lee Byung-ju’s persona), were the primitive conditions of experience that determined the consciousness and behavior of the school-age generation. Amid the rise of “The Thought of Anxiety” and “The Philosophy of Crisis,” the comparative debate over Miyoshi and Hideo Kobayashi is a scene that well represents the mental foundation and level of sophistication of the school-age generation. The way that Yoo Tae-rim chose in the agony of being a slave and master of Japanese imperialism was a frontal attack through honest self-examination. This can be seen through a pernicious confession that the schoolage support was purely on one’s own will. This attitude overthrows the collective memory of the school-age generation, which, in some form, stresses the fact that they refused to cooperate with Japanese imperialism. The dialectic of Lee Byungjoo’s owner and slave, who tried to completely deny the myth of Yoo Tae-rim by omitting the act of mourning for Yoo Tae-rim, is the legacy left to us by author Lee Byung-ju’s writing and the important value of the novel Kanfu Train Ferry.
