국문 초록

인간적 공존을 가능케 하는 정치는 의견의 형성에 좌우되며, 의견의 형성은 ‘보는’ 관점(위치)의 차이를 전제로 한다. 이러한 아렌트의 주장은 정치에 대한 이해가 언어와 공간의 상호연관성에 대한 이해와 밀접하게 연계된다는 점을 함축하고 있다. 앞에서 제기한 문제를 이해하고자 아렌트의 저작을 중심으로 언어행위와 공공영역의 관계를 조명한다. “말이 없는 행위는 진정한 행위가 아니다”라는 아렌트의 주장을 이해하기 위해서는 ‘가청적’언어행위뿐만 아니라 비가청적 언어행위도 고려해야 한다. 그런데 공공영역의 형태(내면적/외면적, 현재적/회상적, 논쟁적[표현적]/조화적[담론적/결사체적])는 언어행위의 유형(가청적/비가청적, 대화/논쟁, 이야기하기)에 따라 결정되기 때문에, 양자의 관계를 체계적으로 분석할 수 있는 기준인 노출/은페, 소리/적막, 경쟁/조율의 함의를 선행적으로 고찰하였다. 본론에서는 비가청적 언어행위와 내면적 공공영역, 가청적 언어행위와 비가촉적 인간관계망, 그리고 이야기하기와 회상적 공공영역의 관계를 조망함으로써 아렌트의 공공영역론에 대한 해석에서 제기되는 관점의 비일관성, 이론적 긴장상태의 미해결이란 비판적 해석에 대한 반비판을 모색한다. 결론에서는 언어행위의 다양성에 대한 이해가 확산될 때 참여정치가 제자리를 잡을 수 있다는 점을 강조하였다.

영문 초록

The politics is the important activity which makes the human co-existence possible. It depends on the formation of opinions, and the formation of opinions depends on the difference of the view points(place). Arendt’s suggestion has the important implication that the understanding on the politics is closely related with the interdependence between the language and the space. For the purpose of understanding the question suggested before, I will illuminate the various relations between the action and the public realm, but do this with focusing on the works by Hannah Arendt. To understand Arendt’s thesis, “speechless action is not true action”, we have to consider the meaning of both audible action as speaking and the non-audible. The various patterns of public realm(interior/exterior, present/past[retrospective], agonistic[expressive]/narrative[associational]) depend on the different patterns of action as speaking(audible/non-audible, conversation/agon, or story-telling). We have to consider three measures to understand completely these relationships. In chapters 3-5 I will attempt to illuminate three kinds of correspondence, namely the non-audible action as speaking and interior public realm, the audible speech and the intangible web of human relationships, and the story-telling and retrospective public realm. This illumination will contribute to understand some problems, the inconsistency between the agonistic view point and the narrative one, and the existence of the theoretical tension, etc. The argument against these critiques will be attempted. In the conclusion it is suggested that the comprehensive understanding and practice of the action as speaking would help the public-spirited citizen improve the possibility of the participatory politics.
