한국의 대학에서 직업교육의 문제

국문 초록

본 연구는 시대적 전환기에 놓여있는 한국사회에서 대학, 그 중에서도 4년제 일반대학에서 직업교육의 문제를 탐구한다. 이미 90년대 말 한국사회는 전기 산업화시대를 마감하고 지식경제, 정보사회로 진입하면서 현 단계의 경제사회구조를 지식정보사회로 부르고 있다. 이러한 변화와 함께 한국의 대학교육은 대중화 단계로 빠르게 진입하였다. 이런 과정에서 대학에서의 교육이 전문적 직업인의 양성이라는 역할이 중시되는 현실이다. 그럼에도 대학 내부에는 직업교육을 종국교육으로 바라보며 학문 지향적 교육의 관성이 여전하다. 이러한 문제에 대해 이공계열 대학을 중심으로 교육의 문제가 어떠한지 명문 엘리트 대학을 포함하여 모든 대학에서 겪고 있는 상황을 진단한다. 그 결과 실용적 직업교육을 실행해야할 공학계열 교수들에 대한 연구 성과 중심의 교수 평가체제가 가진 문제를 개선할 필요를 발견한다. 더불어 실용적 라이선스를 중심으로 취업 가능성에 대비한 인기 전공학과의 과포화 상태의 문제도 확인할 수 있었다. 더불어 변화가 일상인 시대를 살아갈 삶의 기술에 대한 준비로서 직업교육은 기초교양교육의 내실화라는 사실을 확인한다. 이러한 연구의 내용을 바탕으로 본 연구는 대학의 교육, 그 중에서도 직업교육은 새로운 세대, 즉 밀레니얼과 Z세대가 드러내는 새로운 에너지가 열고 있는 가능성을 최대한 수용하여 지역화하고 장인성을 요구하는 일과 직업의 미래를 담아내야 한다는 결론으로 마무리 한다.

영문 초록

This study explores the problem of vocational education especially in four-year universities in Korean society, which is at the turn of the times. Already in the late 1990s, Korean society has ended the era of initial industrialization and entered the knowledge economy and information society. And now we call the current economic and social structure as the knowledge and information society. Along with these changes, Korean university education quickly entered the stage of popularization. In this process, it is a reality that the role of education in college is the cultivation of professional experts. Nevertheless, the inertia of academic-oriented education remains within the university, regarding vocational education as the terminal education. For these problems, this research diagnoses the situation that all universities, including prestigious elite universities, are experiencing educational problems mainly in science and engineering fields. As a result, we find the need to improve the problems of evaluating professors’ performance which focus on the quantity of research papers even though many engineering professors need to implement practical vocational education. In addition, it was possible to confirm the problem of oversaturation of popular majors alleged as conducive to possible employment, owing to providing practical licenses. Also, it confirms the fact that vocational education is the realization of basic liberal arts education as a preparation for life skills in an era where change occurs constantly. Based on the contents of these findings, this study concludes that the future of work and occupations requires localization and craftsmanship in order to support the possibility of new generations and their positive energy.
