황석영 소설에 나타난 서사적 시간의 양상 연구

국문 초록

본고는 황석영의 두 소설을 대상으로 화자인 ‘나’의 시간 속에서 서로 다른 삶의 경험이 어떻게 재현되며, 서사적 시간의 양상이 어떻게 나타나고 있는지 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 그러므로 ‘시간’에 대한 이해는 문학적으로 형상화된 ‘기억’과 연관된 시간이며, 사회역사적인 현실과도 연관성을 맺는 시간이라고 할 수 있다.돌아온 사람 은 ‘사회역사적인 시간’과 ‘인식론적인 시간’이 서로 섞이고 혼융되면서 화자인 ‘나’의 내면에서 균열의 시간을 형성하면서 자기반성적인 시간을 갖게 된다. 이 작품은 한국과 베트남을 둘러싼 여러 시간의 의미를 일인칭 화자의 내면의식 속에서 복합적으로 혼융되면서 서술자아와 경험자아의 시간이 나타나고 있다. 즉, 6.25 전쟁과 베트남 전쟁 사이의 시간적 거리에서 ‘나’가 회고한 서술의 시간이 서로 상호작용하고 긴장을 유발하면서 변증법적인 의미 관계를 형성하고, 반성적인 사고에 이르게 된다. 낙타누깔 은 베트남 청년과 아이들이 미 제국주의와 그 하위 제국인 한국을 비판하면서 지배 이데올로기에 저항하는 담론을 나타내고 있다. 그리고, 남성 중심의 섹슈얼리티를 강화하기 위해 필요한 하위주체의 여성을 억압하고, 남성성의 권력을 행사하면서 남성중심적 시간을 나타낸다. 이런 관점에서, ‘나’의 시간은 ‘낙타누깔’이라는 타자의 응시로 내면의 두려움과 부끄러움을 느끼는 시간이다. ‘낙타누깔’은 스스로 자기 자신을 대상화 하여 바라볼 수 있게 한다. 이처럼 ‘나’는 타자의 응시의 힘으로 주체의 자기반성에 이르는 동시에 새로운 인간으로 거듭날 수 있는 부끄러움의 시간을 가진다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to analyze how different life experiences are reproduced in the time of “ego,” the first person speaker in the novel, and how the aspects of time appear. Therefore, the understanding of ‘time’ is a time that is associated with the ‘memory’ embodied in literary form, and it is also a time of connection with social and historical reality. Returned Person has a time of self-reflection as the “social-historical time” and the “epistemological time” are mixed and fused together, forming a time the narrator, “ego.” In this work, the time of the narrative and the experiential narrator is revealed by mixing the meanings of several times surrounding Korea and Vietnam in the inner consciousness of the narrator. In other words, in the temporal distance between the Korean War and the Vietnam War, the time of the narrative that ‘I’ recalled interacts with each other and induces tension, forming a dialectical meaning relationship, leading to reflective thinking. Camel Nukal represents a discourse in which Vietnamese youth and children criticize US imperialism and its sub-empire, Korea, and resist the ruling ideology. In addition, it represses women, the sub-subjects necessary to realize male-centered sexuality, and expresses male-centered time by exercising masculinity power. From this point of view, the time of ‘I’ is the time to feel inner fear and shame through the gaze of the other named Camel Nukal. Camel Nukal allows readers to see themselves by objectifying themselves. Like this, ‘ego’ has a time of shame to be reborn as a new human being at the same time reaching the subject s self-reflection through the power of the other’s gaze.
