제주도 기와 도입과 전남 서남해안지역 기와 수급관계

국문 초록

제주도는 『남사록』과 「홍화각중수기」의 기록을 통해 자체적으로 기와를 제작할 기술력이 없어 가까운 육지에서 와공을 불러왔음을 알 수 있다. 또한 제주도 대표적인 사찰인 원당사지와 수정사지에서 출도된 기와와 공반유물이 전남 서남해안지역과의 밀접한 관계가 있음을 확인하였다. 탐라의 사신이 신라에 조공할 때 배가 머물렀다하여 탐진(眈津) 이라 명명한 강진 일대와 『고려사』, 『남사록』에서 해남의 관두량(館頭梁), 입암포(笠巖浦) 등 제주도로 가기 위한 공식적인 무역항에 대한 기록도 확인된다. 제주 원당사지와 수정사지에서 출토된 가장 이른 시기의 유물 중 초기 청자의 대표적인 해남 진산리 청자가 확인되었다. 해남 진산리 청자는 전국적인 유통 시스템을 갖추고 있으며 전남지역에서는 유치향의 실체가 밝혀진 장흥 상방촌 A유적에서 많이 출토되었다. 상방촌 A유적에서 확인된 연화문 수막새는 인근 강진 월남사지, 영암 천황사, 강진 병영성 등에서 동범관계의 막새가 출토되었으며, 진도 용장성 이전 단계인 금사사(金沙寺)가 존재했던 시기와 강진 월남사지와의 관련성도 확인하였다. 이는 전남 서남해안지역은 기와를 생산 공급하는데 시스템이 존재하였으며, 그 범위가 지금의 해남, 강진, 진도 지역을 중심으로 이루어졌다. 두 지역간의 기와를 검토한 결과 제작기법과 문양구성에서 유사성이 확인되고, 와공을 가까운 바다 건너에서 데리고 왔다는 기록 등 제주지역 기와의 도입은 전남 서남해안지역과의 관련성을 배제할 수 없으며, 기와의 수요가 있을 때마다 제주도로 가는 무역항인 강진, 해남을 통해 와공이 들어가 기와를 제작하였을 가능성을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

It can be seen that Jeju Island brought in roof tilers from nearby main land because of lack of technology to make rook tiles by itself through the records of 『Namsarok』 and 「Honghwagak junsugi」In addition, it was confirmed that the roof tiles and related relics excavated from Wondangsaji and Sujeongsaji, which are representative temples of Jeju Island, had a close relationship with the southwestern coast area of Jeollanam-do. It is also confirmed at the records on the Gangjin area, named Tamjin, because the ship stayed when envoy of Tamra made tribute to Silla, and official trade ports to go to Jeju Island, such as Guan Du-ryang (館頭梁) and Ipam-po (笠巖浦) of Haenam in 『Koryo History』 and 『Namsa-rok』 Among the earliest relics excavated at Wondangsaji and Sujeongsaji in Jeju, Haenam Jinsan-ri celadon, the representative celadon of early celadon, was confirmed. Haenam Jinsan-ri celadon had a nationwide distribution system, and was excavated a lot in the remains of Sangbangchon A in Jangheung, revealed the real appearance of Yuchi-hyang in the Jeollanam-do area, Yeonhwamun Sumaksae identified in the remains of Sangbangchon A were excavated from nearby Wolnamsaji in Gangjin, Cheonhwangsa in Yeongam, Byungyoungseong in Gangjin, etc., and the relationship between the time when Geumsasa (金沙寺), the earlier stage of Yongjangseong in Jindo, existed and Wolnamsaji in Gangjin was also confirmed. This means that a system existed to produce and supply roof tiles in the southwest coast area of Jeollanam-do, and the scope was around the current Haenam, Gangjin, and Jindo area. As a result of examining the roof tile between the two areas, we confirmed the similarity in the manufacturing technique and pattern composition, and did not exclude the relationship with the southwest coast area of Jeollanam-do considering the introduction of roof tiles in the Jeju region, such as the record that the roof tilers were brought from a nearby sea crossing, and suggested the possibility that roof tilers came from Gangjin and Haenam, which are trading ports to Jeju Island, and made roof tiles.
