국문 초록

본 논문은 독립운동의 공간적 기념이 어떻게 이뤄졌는지, 그리고 기념활동의 역사적 산물인 독립운동 기념관이 어떻게 건립 추진되었는지를 규명하기 위한 것이다. 해방 직후부터 일어난 독립운동 기념활동은 한때 권위주의 정권에 의해 좌우되기도 하였다. 전쟁과 분단, 그리고 독재로 얼룩진 1950년대를 지나 1960년대 들어 독립운동가에 대한 정부 차원의 포상과 연구가 비로소 이뤄지기 시작했다. 그러나 권위적 국가주의와 민족주의의 불안한 동거 속에서 1965년 한일협정이 체결되자, 식민지해방의 과제들이 청산되지 않았음이 다시 한번 상기되었다. 역설적으로 독립운동에 대한 제대로 된 기념과 연구가 필요하다는 목소리는 이때 다시 고조되었으며, 독립운동사 연구도 이런 분위기 속에서 점진적으로 진전되었다. 1982년 일어난 일본 역사교과서 파동은 역설적으로 독립기념관의 건립으로 이어졌다. 해방 후 계속된 독립운동 기념의 성원이 비로소 독립기념관 건립으로 귀결된 것이었다. 2000년대 들어 독립운동 기념관 건립은 전국화되었다. 기념의 주체가 다양해지고, 기념의 방식도 다각화되면서 운영상 혹은 지역 현실상의 과제들도 표출되고 있다. 이제 과거를 돌아보며 기념관의 역사적 의미와 현재적 기능을 성찰할 시점에 와 있다.

영문 초록

This paper explores how the Independence Movement Memorial Hall has been constructed as a place for the celebration of the Independence Movement. The Independence Movement Memorial is a historical product of the independence movement that has continued steadily since liberation. The construction of the memorial hall, which is accompanied by the construction of monuments, is closely related to the government’s policy to promote veterans. In the 1960s, the social interest in the independence movement was raised once again as a government-level reward was made for independence activists. But the rewards were part of the justification for the military regime that took power as a military coup. When the 1965 Korea-Japan Agreement was signed amid unstable co-locations of authoritarian nationalism and nationalism, it was recalled once again that the tasks of the colonization had not been settled. Voices demanding proper commemorative and research on the independence movement were raised again at this time. Meanwhile, the 1982 Japanese history textbook scandal led to the establishment of the Independence Memorial of Korea. In the 2000s, the establishment of the Independence Movement Memorial was nationalized. With the activation of ‘Independence Movement’ the subjects of the celebration have diversified. However, it is also true that there are a variety of challenges in operation and regional reality
