연령주의가 세대갈등 인식에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구는 코로나19 펜데믹으로 인해 디지털을 기반으로 한 언택트 사회로의 변화가 가속되어가는 만큼 가치관 및 사고방식을정립하는데 있어 증가하는 미디어의 중요성을 인식하고 연령주의와 세대갈등 인식의 관계에서 미디어 노인차별과 미디어 이용시간의역할을 알아보기 위한 목적으로 진행되었다. 이를 위해 ‘연령통합 및 세대통합조사’ 데이터를 활용하여 만 20-64세의 성인 833명을대상으로 위계적 다중회귀분석을 실시해 미디어 노인차별의 이원상호작용효과와 미디어 이용시간의 삼원상호작용효과를 순차적으로살펴보았으며 상호작용효과의 사후검토를 위해 단순 기울기 유의성 검증을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 연령주의와 미디어 노인차별이세대갈등 인식에 영향을 미치는 요인으로 나타났으며 미디어 노인차별의 이원상호작용효과와 미디어 이용시간의 삼원상호작용효과가유의미하게 나타났다. 즉, 미디어 속 노인차별에 대한 접촉 경험이 많을수록 연령주의가 세대갈등 인식에 미치는 영향이 더 가파르게증가하였으며, 미디어 이용을 많이 하는 사람일수록 이와 같은 관계가 두드러졌다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 미디어에서 긍정적인 노인이미지 구현을 위한 실천적, 정책적 제언을 하였다.

영문 초록

This study examined the effect of ageism on perceptions on intergenerational conflict, and the interaction effects of media portrayal of elderly discrimination and media usage time in their relationship, in recognition of the importance of media in establishing v alues and beliefs as the change to a digital-based untact soceity is accelerating due to COVID-19. The data from ‘Survey on Age Integration and Generational Integration’ conducted by SSK (Social Sciences Korea) was applied to analyze a total of 833 study participants aged 20-64. Two-way interaction effect of media portrayal of elderly discrimination and three-way interaction effect of media usage time was investigated using hierarchical multiple regression analysis, and simple slopes test was followed to interpret the interaction effects. The results show ageism and media stereotyping as significant variables on intergenerational conflict, and two-way interaction effect of media portrayal of elderly discrimination and three-way interaction effect of media usage time was significant. Therefore, the effect of ageism on intergenerational conflict was accelerated when participants experienced more media portrayal of elderly discrimination, and this relationship was increased by higher media usage time. Based on the results of the study, practical and political measures to produce positive elderly image in media were discussed.
