국문 초록

본 연구는 정치·경제적 이해가 중동 내 양국 관계에 어떤 영향을 주는지를 분석하였다. 현실주의적 국제관계론에서 주변 환경의 변화에 따른 국가의 전략적관계 수정의 사례를 사우디아라비아와 터키의 관계 변화를 통해서 파악하고자하였다. 특히, 터기는 유럽 연합의 터키 가입 거부 이후 경제 및 무역 이익을 확보하고 에너지 공급을 확보하기 위해 중동, 특히 사우디아라비아와의 새로운전략적 관계를 구축하였다. 사우디아라비아와 터키 모두 역내 분쟁과 불안정성의 고조, 이란의 영향력 증대, 테러와의 전쟁 등에 대응하면서 자국의 이익을 극대화하기 위해 양국 간 관계 강화를 추구하였다. 위의 가설을 입증하기 위해 본연구는 2017년 초 카타르 사태 이후 양국의 주요 언론 기사의 내용 분석을 통해관계 변화의 기저에 깔린 변수를 분석하였다.

영문 초록

This research examines political and economic rationale behind Turkish and Saudi policies toward the Gulf crisis. This study puts also emphasis on the changing bilateral relations between Turkey and Saudi Arabia as a case study of the research. In order to measure the ‘realist’ foreign policy shift of the both countries, this research conducts a content analysis of the most circulated English news papers of the two countries, Arab News and Daily Sabah. The analysis is based on the following three thematic categories: (1) how the opinion sections of the two newspapers interpreted the reasons behind the fluctuating bilateral relations; 2) how the two newspapers evaluated the consequence of the diplomatic tension; and (3) the solutions suggested by the two papers solve the diplomatic deadlock between the two countries. This paper aims at delving into the bilateral relationship between Saudi Arabia and Turkey so as to show how the bilateral relations have witnessed considerable fluctuation as a result of Turkish shift in its foreign policy in the case of the Qatar crisis.
