국문 초록

국립 박물관은 유물과 전시를 통해 지역사회의 역사를 증명하고 국민이 국가 정체성을 갖도록 유도하고 있다. 이에 따라 아랍에미리트의 각국 정부는 국립 박물관을 건립하여 자국의 국가 정체성을 형성하기 위해 노력하고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 아부다비 해양박물관, 두바이 박물관, 샤르자 해양박물관의 전시 내러티브를 비교하는 것이다. 아랍에미리트 국립 박물관의 전시 내러티브는 유사한 생활환경을 공유한 연합 토후국으로서의 공동의 정체성을 강조하는 동시에 각 토후국이 독자적인 역사적 사실을 반영하고 있다. 아부다비 해양박물관의 전시 내러티브는 석유산업의 발전이 토후국 경제발전의 주요한 핵심이었음을 강조하고 있다. 두바이 박물관의 전시 내러티브는 중계무역 도시로서 상인과 진주어업 종사자들이 1950년대 경제 성장의 주체였음을 설명한다. 샤르자 해양박물관의 전시 내러티브는 18세기 뛰어난 조선술과 강력한 해상세력을 가진 해양강국 이였음을 강조하고 있다.

영문 초록

The National Museum utilizes artifacts and exhibitions to prove the history of the community and to enable citizens to have a national identity. Accordingly, the governments of each emirate in the UAE are trying to establish museums to shape their own national identities. This study analyzes the compare of the exhibition narratives at Abu Dhabi Maritime Museum, Dubai Museum, and Sharjah Maritime Museum. The exhibition narratives of the UAE National Museums emphasize a common identity as a united nation sharing similar living conditions. At the same time, they represent each emirate’s historical facts. Abu Dhabi museum’s narrative emphasizes that the development of petroleum industry was a major factor of the economic development. Dubai Museum’s narrative tells that Dubai was a trading city where merchants and pearl fishing were the main drivers of economic growth in 1950s. Sharjah Museum’s narrative proves that Sharjah was a strong maritime power emirate with excellent boat-building skills in the 19th century.
