燕系 鐵器文化의 擴散과 그 背景

국문 초록

최근 고고학계에서는 한반도를 포함한 동북아시아 여러 지역에서 인지되는 전국시대 연계 鑄造鐵器의 확산을 둘러싸고그 시기와 배경, 확산 주체와 관련된 논의가 활발하다. 일반적으로 이러한 현상의 배경으로 燕將 秦開의 五郡設置에 주목하는 연구자가 많았지만, 일본학계를 중심으로 연의직접지배가 요동을 지나 청천강에 이르면서 나타난 현상이라는 주장이 강조되고 있으며 그 시기는 오히려 지금까지의 이해보다 소급된다고도 한다. 이러한 주장은 야요시시대 신연대론과 더해져서 더욱 세를 불리는 형국이며 우리 학계와 중국학계에도 무비판적으로 소개되고 있다. 특히 일본열도로 전래된 주조철기류 역시도 그 배경으로 지배면적을 넓힌 연의 주도적인 역할을 상정한다. 즉 철기확산을 둘러싸고 낙랑군영향설에서 전국시대 연국영향설로 페러다임의 변화가 진행되고있는 것이다. 본 고에서는 이 시기 한반도와 그 주변지역 정치체의 역할을 경시하는 이러한 해석의 문제점을 인식하고 이를 비판적으로 검토하였다. 연국이 요서와 요동을 거쳐 청천강유역까지 직접지배의 범위를 넓혔다는 주장의 근거를 체계적으로 분석하여 문제를 지적한 다음, 소위 세죽리-연화보유형의 문화요소가 연국의 그것과 동일하지 않다는 것을 논증하였다. 결국 이 시기 연계철기문화를 확산시킨 주체를 세죽리-연화보 유형과 통하는 것으로 해석하여 이를 연국 그 자체로 보는 일련의 주장과는 다르게 고조선과 관련되었을 가능성을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

In the archaeological community there has recently been active debate about the dates, background, and spread of cast iron objects of the Yan state of the Warring States Period in Northeast Asia and particularly in the Korean Peninsula. In general the background stressed by many scholars about this phenomenon is the Yan general Qin Kai’s establishment of the five commanderies, but in the Japanese archaeological community a view has appeared that claims that the direct dominion of Yan extended from Liaoning into the Cheoncheon-gang River basin and the date of that has retroactive. This view is linked with the re-dating of the Yayoi Period and has influenced the Korean and Chinese archaeological communities without any criticism. Also, the background of the types of cast iron objects that came down to the Japanese Archipelago are symbolic of Yan’s territorial control and wide independent role. That is to say, the model of the influence of the Lelang Commandery is changing to the model of the influence of the paradigm of theW arring States Yan state model. In this paper I critically examine and recognise problems about which the political systems of the Korean Peninsula and nearby regions have been ignored. After pointing out issues with the basis of the claim that Yan was able to project power that stretched from Liaoxi and into Liaodong as far as the Cheongcheon-gang River basin, I demonstrate that cultural elements the so-called Sejukri-Yeonhwabo type are not the same as the cultural elements of the Yan state. Finally, I critically analyzed a series of claims on interpreting the principals of the spread of the iron culture of Yan through to the Sejukri-Yeonhwabo type.
